Knife Collections....

I started off my day this morning (after I got up at quarter to 11 ) by cleaning out my night-stand drawer, which is where I keep my knife collection. As I was organizing my knives & takin' 'em out to admire them, I began to wonder if anybody else here collects knives. I ended up taking some pictures; I think all the knives I have are there...
It's not really much to brag about, but I've got a few good pieces.

I carry a Columbia River just like yours everyday. A great tool! The blade sees a lot of abuse and holds an edge very well.
-
Yeah, after I carried my Kershaw 2415T liner lock with the tanto blade forever and totally ruined it (cutting paper, weeds, rocks, opening locks ), I got my CRKT. I must admit that it's still in one piece, but that's about all I can say for it. It very obviously is not nearly of the same quality as my Kershaw stuff, and at ~$50 it costs more than my 2415T which it replaced. The job they did of cutting the little slots in the handle aren't smooth, the blade stains really easily. But, it hasn't broken and I guess the blade is still relatively sharp. Might be time to get out the ol' Lansky system....George Grand wrote: »

I collect guns, guns with heritage. I'm not some assault weapon freak survivalist. I have taken up collecting swords too.Go BIG or go home!

You knife collectors scare me. Especially the ones with giant science fiction looking knives hanging on walls on a velour display. You know those klingon looking knives with hooks and serations.
I just have a trusty Leatherman and some box cutters. IMO knives are just tools like the hundreds of other tools in my toolbox, but to each their own.Graham -
I collect knives, and even make them too. I'm more into fixed blades myself. I'll try and find a recent one I made and post a pic later.

This isn't my knife, but it's the same one I have that I like the most. The M9 Boyonet. It used to be boot camp issued.
It's a lot bigger than the picture shows. -

I spent time as a butcher, and I still have quite an array of working knives. I also have a couple of lock backs, a Gerber and two Bucks that I always carry. I put one on every morning just like my pants...
My better half once asked me why I always have a knife with me. I told her " Well honey, you never know when you gonna hafta cut a motherf#cker...." -

Man, nice knife, Demi!! I'd like to get into collecting some knives like that.
Has anybody had any experience with SOG or Cold Steel knives? I have my eye on a few SOGs (Flash).
Codey,
wow, you make knives? I'd love to see some of those.
Now, to brag a lil'
The silver knife in the center of the pics (the larger one) is a Harley knife by United Cutlery with flames etched on the handles. The blade was sujected to Cryoedge treatmeant which means it was cooled to -400 degrees or somethin'. It's supposed to help the edge's life. Very sharp.
The all-black one on the left with writing on the blade (that says "Ken Onion Special Edition") is 1 of 500. Also very sharp.
All the Kershaw knives come amazingly sharp. Way sharper than necessary to shave your arms.
I've only had one Gerber, and that was about 3 years ago and lost it; however, I liked it. The only Buck I've had is the small one in the pic. I don't like it 1) because it's way too small, 2) the blade is too shiny and scratches too easily, and 3) the blade hasn't held an edge well at all.
Qualifier on this short review of the Buck knife: If I don't like a knife, I'm hard on it; I didn't like this one.George Grand wrote: »

Same here; I 'put on' my CRKT or the beat-up silver Kershaw every morning; the only time you can find me without a knife is when I'm playing badminton or taking a shower.George Grand wrote: »

I think I'm going to give my home depot wire the "Cryoedge" treatment.
-
I carried the same Gerber from high school through college.
As of late, I enjoy the craftmanship of those made in Solingen(Boker being just one example).
Interesting to note that there are over 200 knife manufactures in Solingen, but we only get a select few here in the states.
If my workplace allowed it, I would still carry an American made knife over anything else though.Tschüss

Audiobliss,
I've owned a few Cold Steel products and they're great.
This was a kit, I'll have to get the one I made from scratch from my girlfriend's dad later.

Probably because most people who collect knives do it for their aesthetic sense, value, history, and collect-ability, just like paintings, coins, stamps, etc. The fact that they are weapons never really enters the picture. I've never seen someone with a pipe-bomb mounted in glass on their mantle.Go BIG or go home!

I only have three. The first one is a fold up version I saved up for and purchased when I was about 10 years old. Still have it, not a scratch on it. I recently found it again and gave it to a friend to sharpen. He wanted to know if I wanted it durable, super sharp or in between. I said super sharp and as you probably already figured out, I almost cut my finger off while admiring it. Lost it in the house after that. The second one was a christmas gift when I was 12 or so. Hunting knife. Never used it but it is still around somewhere. The third one is fairly usefull but I rarely feel like carrying it around. It is a Kershaw assisted opening blade. A little flip and it whips right out. Certainly the coolest one I have. If an apple or a loaf of bread ever attacts me I am well prepared.
