Ok, i got a HDTV and I want to have a Dish Network dual tuner DVR to hook up to my TV.

I call Dish and they have a DVR 522 that is exactly what i'm looking for.. cool. sign me up.

wrong! problem is.. the DVR 522 is only for new customers. WTF!!!!

I've only been with Dish for two years.. paying my bill on time every month.. sticking with them and generally being happy with the service. Now that i am willing to pay them more for my satellite service.. they say I can't have the new dual tuner DVR 522. IT"S ONLY FOR NEW CUSTOMERS!

THey told me i could rent another DVR tuner from them.. and have two of them hooked up to my TV. ok. but i don't want two seperate tuners.. and have to pay an additional $29 a month.. bringing my total to well over $75 for basic satellite service.. because they are to stingy to let current customers in good standing rent one from them.

crap. I am pissed off about this. I've gone around and around with them several times over it.

Digital Cable is looking better and better all the time.

Same thing happen to me. Been with them over 2 years. I wanted to upgrade to the hd and they said it would cost me 399, the dvr would cost me 199. I even paid year at a time. When I called to cancel they offered both for 50. I now have digital cable.

Same problem here. I was a Dish customer for 3 years. When I asked for the 522 receiver they said nope, new customers only. Tried multiple times and they kept saying no. When I called to cancel they offered to "change the name" on the account so that I could get the 522. I said no thank you, already had DirectTV on order with Tivo. Love Tivo!

I suspect it's cause Comcast just launched a dual tuner DVR this week. They probably aren't going to give up their limited supply unless it's going to make them more money.

As you can see, the tunes changes when you call to cancel. Just ask for 'customer retention' and they should cave.

Get the 921 instead. Dual tuner and records HD. It's available now for $549.

    No brainer.

You can watch one and record another at the same time, or you can record 2 shows off the Dish and watch an OTA station. Sweet ain't it!:D

    FrankZ,

when you go to an HD tuner, do you need a different satellite dish too? like an upgrade? is the dish free?

You'll need a Dish500 dish, a Quad LNB, and 2 RG-6 cables fromthe dish to the receiver (dual tuners require a feed for each).

Set up is straight forward, I mean any schmoe that can point a camera should be able to aim a dish!!

    Just kidding!!;)

    It's a piece of cake.

Don't know if the Dish one is similar to the Comcast one, but you can actually watch a pre-recorded show off the DVR and record two others simultaniously.
