Saw one a couple nights ago. It lasted as long as any "shooting star" I've seen...

Don't get your hopes up. This year's Leonid meteor shower, due to peak on Friday, Nov. 19th, won't be like the jaw-dropping storms we've seen in recent years. But in some places there could be a nice display.

Sky watchers in eastern Europe and Asia are favored; they might see as many as 60 meteors per hour around 21:49 GMT when Earth skims through a cloud of space dust deposited almost 300 years ago by Comet Tempel-Tuttle.

Sky watchers in the Americas won't see so many Leonids, perhaps only 5 to 15 per hour. The best time to look from the Americas is during the hours before sunrise on Friday, Nov. 19th, and maybe again on Saturday, Nov. 20th.
