Speakers

Well, I'm currently trying to find out if there's a way to mount the MM6s in my Jeep. If there is, I definitley want them. If there isn't, is it stupid to get some for $190 for a next car? I'm really tempted and am about 98% sure that I want to get them, even if they won't fit in my Jeep.
Thanks!
Edit: BTW, my budget for speakers would be about $200, so this is definitely I could get!!

Better hurry, I think theyre selling out of them. I noticed it first stated "ships within 24 hours" and now theyre to "usually ships within 1 business day". Im afraid theyre going to be out of them before I can come up with the scratch to get them! I hate being broke!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

All right; so I've decided to go with the Polk/MOMO MM6 components. I'm also going to either get the Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP or the Alpine CDA-9831 (or something comparable).
Here's the deal: I won't be able to get an amp for a while, so my HU is going to have to power my speakers for a while. Will either of these HUs do it? BTW, I won't be running any rear speakers, so I could possibly bi-amp the fronts; right?
Thanks.George Grand wrote: »

Ugh. You could do that but it would suck. The MM6 is a pretty rugged hoss and as such requires a bit of grunt to get it moving. I wouldnt power them with anything less than 75 watts and thats actually too low. 100-150 is ideal. Regardless of which head unit you buy itll only be pumping out about 12 watts per channel of usable power and even bi-amping them youll be seriously underpowering the MM6's. This could hurt them in that they wouldnt be getting enough power to sound worth a damn and so youd turn it up and crank a lot of distortion into them and ZAP!
I would HIGHLY recommend buying an amp. You could get some $125 Profile to hold you over.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

ehh, well; I'm asking for a $450 home stereo DVD player, $340 HU, and $190 worth of MM6s; I'm already pushin' it pretty good; don't think I could add an amp to the mix.
On the bright side, I never listen to stuff really loud, and I could refrain from such for a while.
Any thoughts?George Grand wrote: »

haha, I see
Well, now I've got another problem. I have been convinced that I need to get an amp to run my MM6 instead of using w/e HU I end up with. Well, I think I've decided on the MTX Thunder 502. Any quarrels there?
Next, I can't get it all, so I'm gonna hafta find some $60 CD player; what's the cheapest thing that has pre-outs?
Last, Dad is strongly discouraging this because of rain. When I mentioned my vehicle to the installer he said they'd hafta put somethin' in the door to protect the speaker from rain, as these cars leak. Well, Dad doesn't want me to put anything in the door for it to get ruined. So, how can I make sure this doesn't happen? What would I have to do to waterproof my door panel both for my speakers and the crossovers?
I'm gonna hafta end up not getting the home DVD player and buying the speakers myself, I'm afraind, due to money. Anyhoo, does this sound at all like a plan? Any other suggestions?
Also, what are the mid's grills made of in the MM6s?
Thanks!!!George Grand wrote: »

Well folks, after discussing this in depth with several people on the forum I have finally reached a system that I believe is pretty awesome.
First up are the MM6 speakers at CarDomain.com. Price: $190.
Next is the Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP from Electronicscity.com. Price: $340.
Last is the HiFonics NX400 amp from thezeb.com. Price: $150.
Obviously the weak link is the amp. It will be the first thing to be upgraded. (Unless, of course, I can't figure out how to make the MM6s fit and in frustration stomp through the woofer; then, speakers would be first. )
If anybody sees something horribly wrong with this picture, please let me know!! From what research I've done, I can't see anything inconsistent here. tell me what you think.
I really want to thank MacLeod (hey, what's his name?) and Cody for the huge amount of time they put in helping me (err, well; I DID agree to it; that's probably all I contributed ) with picking out this first system. I feel greatly indebted to them and probably will for quite a while lol.
Well, it is late and I must needs some rest.
I appreciate all the info and suggestions/advice everyone has offered in any of the 4 threads I've had on my system. This is truly a great place!!
Thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The MM6 is made of aluminum. It will not rust. The only thing that could rust is the screw down terminals. If you coat them with a little grease after connecting the wires, you should be fine. We actually sell a lot of those for marine applications.
As for the crossovers, install those in the cabin of the vehicle and run two sets of wires into each door. One for the tweeter and one for the mid. -
All right, thanks; that really makes me feel a lot better. I'm sure I can manage that somehow.....lol

You're thinkig of the MM6500. The cap on the MM6 is metal. You have to peel the label off and unscrew them

Im not big on Hifonics. Have heard way too many stories of them dying for me to be comfortable with them. Hell Mobile Entertainment was doing a test on one and it fritzed out on the test bench! But everybody else digs em so Im in the minority again.
I think spending the extra $150 for the MTX amp would be a wise investment. It would provide ideal power for the MM6 more so than the Hifonics, and be a whole lot better built. Buying the MTX would also save you from having to upgrade later.

Yeah, I agree and would much rather have the MTX now, but the money just ain't there. I'll upgrade to the MTX in a year or so and keep the HiFonics around in case I do some rears or something some time. I'd really love to get teh MTX now and then not hafta upgrade, but that just ain't an option.George Grand wrote: »

Well how about something like this Coustic for $212? This is a better amp than the Hifonics and wouldnt need to be upgraded anytime soon for $60 more.
You could also go with a 50x4 amp and bi-amp the MM6's. 50x4 amps are sometimes cheaper than 100x2.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Absolutely. Dont get me wrong, Hifonics isnt flea market crap by any means and youre likely to get years of good performance out of it. My main point was rather than spending $150 now and upgrading later, why not drop $200-250 and not have to worry about it. Hell even stepping up to the Zeus line would be a good investment.
But I feel your pain on the money issue. Every day I come in and look at those MM6 on SoundDomain for a paltry $190 then look at the even paltrier $100 or so in my bank account.
I should have the cash by mid December tho. I just hope theyre still there. If not Ill have to go to Crutchfield and pay full price.
Ooh I take that back. I just went to Crutchfield and theyre down to $250! Thats cool. I may go with them anyway, I feel a lot safer dealing with them.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Even if I went with a $250 amp, I don't think I'd be satisfied with it for long; I'd still want to upgrade to the MTX Thunder 502 or Polk 300.2 or something. I guess I'll just get the HiFonics and pray it doesn't fry itself!:D
