RTI tweeters

I just replaced my tweeters out of my rti12's and I am wondering why the foam material is used behind the tweeter. It is sandwiched between the speaker itself and the back of the tweeter. I was under the assumption that it sealed the airspace? Can anybody shed some light on why it is there. Just curious.

just curious, did you upgrade the tweeters, or replace bad tweeters?

I had one bad tweeter that didn't sound as bright as the other. Does anyone know of the grey foam that is behind the tweeter? I am just curious because I can't see that particular type of foam used for sealing up anything, could it prevent rattling of the tweeter? Someone must know this.

maybe its just so the back of the tweeter doesnt rub up against the wood behind it? lol

Hi Marcpam,
Never replaced a Polk tweeter before. You can call or e-mail Polk and ask them about it. I think that's the safest way.
OR, you can check the tweeter on the other speaker to see if the foam is there or not.
