    All you really need is the phantom power. It's just that the specs on the unit are good, and you can expect little in the way of noise, FR deviation, or distortion from the pre-amp is you buy the Behringer. That stuff is their bread and butter. I got mine from 8th Street Music......cheap and fast and good CS.

    Thanks Doc! I am looking forward to doing 'direct feeds' without using excel and correction files. (I did see there is a correction file for the 8000, but they are very 'minor')

    Don't use the standard TrueRTA correction file for the ECM8000; it's worthless.

    If you want my correction factors I'll give them to you, but all mics will vary. I've seen 6 FRs on 6 different ECM8000s and they were all different, mostly below 15 Hz.

    For home use, you'll probably be OK without calibration. For product testing where others rely on the data - get the mic calibrated. It's only about $40 and Kim Girardin does nice work.
