Marantz AV-550

I've noticed that there is a Marantz AV-550 DD preamp for sale. I've thought that it might be nice to have this. However, I really don't know enough to make any decisions. Does anybody know anything about this pre? How does Marantz' equipment usually sound? Would this unit match well to my Klipsch speakers? Also, would it be foolish to buy this pre to stick in my closet until I get an amp (as I only have a receiver right now). Would this HT pre do well for stereo? That's basically all I would us it for.

I'd really appreciate any advice.

BTW, if warlocks sees this, don't take it offensively; I just don't know anything about it. Well, about pre's, either.
