    That's not necessarily true PH....

When I was at the Fry's out here in Phoenix and they were clearancing those out, I had them pull 3 pair of regularly priced LSi7's and the box lettering was identical.

Could the "B's" be the 2nd generation LSi's out of China?

They are not out of China, they are assembled in mexico like all my other older Polk speakers.

Whats the difference betwen the newer and older style, and how can I tell which I have? Must admit I wasn't aware they had been modified.

Is the newer style also being assembled in China? My FXi3's are the only Polks I have from China, wasn't sure if they just moved lower line models there or all production.

    It's all in China now...

Per the Polk brass, their build quality surpasses Mexico. Much owed to computer controlled cutting tools and a huge workforce that matches cabinet assemblies for fit and finish...

    Brett,
The ones you bought were not refurbs or b stock, no matter what the sign said.

So what is the differences between the older and newer LSi's?

Just that the newer models are assembled in China rather then mexico, or are there other differences as well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think the only difference in the "old" and "new" LSi's is in the finish on the cabinets. The "old" style has some sort of a clear laminate on the glossy black parts of the enclosure, while the "new" style is a sprayed-on clear coat. The old style has visible seams around the edges and where the corners are mitered together, while the new ones are smooth. Also the new cherry finish looks quite a bit different than the old. Most people consider the new finish to be a nice improvement. That said, the new finish doesn't make them SOUND any better.

I bought a pair of the above-mentioned 7's from Fry's, through Brett. Though they were marked "B" on the Polk sticker and "refurb" on the Fry's sticker, I am about 99.5% sure that these were factory-new units. They are the old-style finish, assembled at the Mexico plant. If there's anything b-stock or refurb about them, I can't tell it. And I'm picky.

If you're happy with the way they sound and the price you paid, I say just enjoy them and don't worry about what's on the label.

    Jason,
It's possible that Fry's just did that so they'd qualify for clearance. Seems strange to run a clearance just for a cosmetic change, but anything is possible...
