This is gonna sound strange, but stay with me. Completely disassemble your system, clean everything and reassemble. Pay special attention to re-routing cables neatly, and cleaning connections. Check the tightness of all of your drivers mounting hardware, they do vibrate loose. Then, reposition your speakers; try different set-ups and take a listen. This should hold you until spring.

Everytime I think I'm tired of my car, I wash it. Then I like it again. :D

the problem is that I want to buy rti8's and then I'd be happy for a bit but must buy snow tires on monday..I had a chance at rti10 for 700$cad and walked away casue I thought maybe I could put he cash somewhere else (house, car) but I can't stop thinking of the 8's. I have upgraded all my speaker cables, and IC's.....the only thing left is the 8's...then a new receiver with preouts and an amp....but then I think what is wrong with my current gear...nothing it's great...oh wait the psw202 needs to go but only when we buy our next house(that my wife's rule and I agree) but honestly if I had the 8's all my speakers would match (i would lose the r10 I have for rears and put my rti4's there) I am even trying to sell my professional trombone(i don't play anymore) to be able to purchase the 8's.....

The only cure is continuously adding/ turning over gear...

Otherwise best you can hope for are periods of remission followed by recurrence of the illness...

And each bout only gets more expensive to force into remission.

It's a vicious cycle... embrace your illness...
    More later,

I have the same problem. I just put a stop on it. It's hard to do but just tell yourself it is not that important and that no matter what you have there will be better stuff out there. I've been doing pretty well, except this new polk XM tuner is about to put me back on a spending spree.

Willow, I feel your pain, now relax and savor it, breath deeply when the urges come, delayed gratification is where it is at, also, get in the cable swap program, its my next move, just as soon as my latest addition I just bought, a tube pre gets here, oh yea, and the speakers from Tour and a new cartridge for the TT, ah forget it!!!!!!!!!!

    Its hopeless.........................:D

Ive found, and its stinks to think about it.... But the more time i spend on this forum hearing reviews and seeing people buying new gear day in and day out... and all the talk of gear makes me wanna try new stuff, perhaps from peoples reviews.. When i took a break some time back from the board i never even thought of buying gear.. was just concentrating on different stuff.. when i came back after a week or so i started getting new gear, trading stuff out left and right and just now have stopped buying for the holidays are upon us and more important things come with holidays and family get togethers...

Not saying leave the forum, But taking breaks helps me out a bit.. However ive only done it once.. and its addicting in itself to read on here everyday/.. I have club polk in my favorites as well.. Just way to easy to come here several hundred times a day :D

probably 99% of the people in here and many other audio forums.. get bitten by the upgrade bug all the time.

I know i do quite a bit myself. I'm able to keep it somewhat under control though. But now and then i'll buy something inexpensive or vintage.. and that takes care of my fix for a while.

Try a different hobby.. especially if you already have the equipment to get started. Like photography.. is fun... it allows you to bring out the creative side of you. It also forces you to explore and see things in a different way. I'm a photographer by trade... so I see my whole life thru a viewfinder pretty much.

How about starting some kind of collection? Something small and inexpensive?

These are just a few ideas... i guess what keeps my spending in check.. is i'm usually always broke. :p that right there will cure you of upgrade-itis.

Ebay the Tbone, I sold my Selmer sax for +3k more than I had in it! Shine it up and take lots of great pics.

Make a deal with the wife to vacation for her and upgrade for you. Its all about balance.

Plan it, and make it happen, and then realize that no matter what you buy, its awful hard to take it with you.

For me, tuning and tweaking usually gives at least a brief respite.

Otherwise, I keep having to call the bank to have them remove that pesky little $3k/day spending limit on my account. Bank One's funny like that. I think they are run by a bunch of wives.

ebay's a good place to try gear out.

Dennis is right though, you need to sell as well as buy or you end up with a room full of gear you don't use and an attic full of strofoam peanuts stuffed into garbage bags...

Dennis, thanks for the new Sig line... :D

I should look into Ebay this weekend and sell my trombone, kenwood and JBL's....but the kenwood and JBL's should be offered to polkies first....not that it's great gear...but one man's junk....

Ebay can be a good place for great deals.. you just have to be patient.. you may not win the first item you bid on.. it may take several attemps before you score that good deal.

I haven't had any horrible experience on Ebay. I find that most people there are honest in their dealings. Good email or phone commuication is key to a successful ebay transaction though. Keep in contact with the seller of the item every other day.. and ask detailed questions.

I have gotten some great vintage gear on Ebay over the years.. gear that I would otherwise have no way of getting my hands on.

I've sold and bought over 130 things on Ebay.. with 100% positive feedback. ;)

Works for me! In fact, when I get involved in the upgrade madness for awhile, I'm itchy to get everything settled and go find some new music (or reprise some old favorites.) Perhaps you're bored with your music library? Find something that makes your ears perk up like a dog straining to hear a distant sound, sit back, relax, and listen.

I am searching for a speaker that not only sounds amazing, but one that I may also fit inside of comfortably.

I will then have reached my goal, and will crack the pill in my mouth to begin my journey to the Abyss.
