I have the rti12's and noticed that one tweeter is just a hair brighter than the other. Should this be a concern? I would like to know if anyone of you guys have had this experience or not.

They should sound the same left and right.

    1. Check polarity (+/-) on your speaker cables at the amp, and speakers, and make sure it is correct (or at least identical on each).

    2. Try some different sources, if you haven't already and see if that gives any insight.

    3. Swap L/R speaker cables on your amp, see if the brightness follows the swap, or stays with the speaker.

    Cheers,

swapped the left and right cables off the amp and still is the same. I listened to it again and it sounds pretty much the same. Like I said, it is just a hair brighter. My wife couldn't tell, so it might just be me. I am extremely picky when it comes to stuff like this.

So you swapped l/r cables, and it stayed on the same side, or followed the swap?

Could it be the placement of the speaker? Maybe you are getting extra reflections off of a wall or something which would make the one side sound brighter? Seating position might be off to one side a little or toe in not even? just some wild guesses...

When you switch to "mono" is the output the same?

I should have stated, the diff. is only noticeable if your ear is right up to the tweeter. The diff. is very subtle and don't know if i should not worry about it. Polk cust. service said that the woofers/tweeters are set to within 1db. Does this sound right?

I would agree. So swap right speaker for left speaker, it just may be a reflection of sound.

I physically changed the tweeter in each speaker and the problem followed the tweeter. Now that I know that it is the tweeter, is there anyway that polk can ship me the pair and when I receive them, ship them my old set? I don't want to be without speakers for lord knows how long.

If they sound the same at the listening position, I think you should forget the entire affair.

Unless of course you make a habit of listening with your ear right up against the tweeter.

I think you are talking yourself into THINKING one sounds noticeably brighter than the other.

Feed the system a mono signal. Put yourself equidistant from both speakers. To the INCH! If the presentation appears to come from dead center between the two speakers, nothing is amiss. Nothing with the speakers that is.

    Agree...

Plus, RTi12's are a bit bulky for headphones...
