Its probably time to cut your losses and start looking at powered subs. I'm assuming you've got some kind of HTIB woofer.

Do you meen like a car sub? Because if so then I will need to by an amp.

Powered subs have their own built-in amps. You need a receiver w/ a sub out, tho. Called line level out. You need a sub cable, you can buy it pretty much anywhere. The one on bluejeanscable.com seems to be the best quality for the least money.
You can buy decent subs at Circuit City on the cheaper side, but if you're willing to shell out $400 you can get the new SVS PB10 ISD which is getting decent reviews, or an HSU STF 2. Both would be a world of difference for you if you're used to that HT in a box ****. Have fun. A good sub really makes or breaks a home theater. I'm about to go SVS myself.

Well you need to answer one question man...
Are you talking about...
Car Audio
or
Home Audio?
lol...
Car Audio, go to the main forum page, and scroll down till you see the car audio section!
Good luck!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Where are you from? Maybe someone locally has a used one you can get a deal on.

I have a home audio system and i am from Annapolis

What is the budget you are looking at? What do you have now that you don't like? There have been some good subs available in the forum. (I purchased my sub from the forum)
for example - Polk PSW-505 for $250 + shipping

You could go with a DIY type project but you will have the same amplifier issues that you have now.
With the price ranges you seem to be looking at, it will be hard to find a great deal on a brand new sub. (you could always try the return area of CC or Best Buy) I think used or open box will be your best bang for the buck.
Another place to check for used is audiogon.

They have some pretty expensive subs selling there but you can find some good deals as well.
Good luck and don't get in to much of a hurry, there are good deals out there if you are willing to wait for them.

his receiver doesn't have a RCA pre out for a sub.. can he still hook up a powered sub?PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
Even if it doesn't have preouts, you can still add a powered sub.
You will need a passiveline level converter
You can pick up a cheaper one at a car audio place for around $20 or less. There was a thread on this topic a few days ago, but I can't seem to find it right now.
Edit: Found the link to the thread- http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23092

Most subs (especially cheaper ones) will accept line level inputs and then pass info above whatever crossover you set on the sub to your main speakers. (this is even the way that polk reccomends hooking up a sub.)
It is worth verifying before purchasing though......
