i'm thinking of buying a pair of large Polk speakers in Canada. I can pick them up in person. i'm wondering what kind of fees and i might encounter. Customs fees, duty charges, etc.
can anyone clear this up for me? do I declare the value of the speakers. then fill out some kind of form or something like that?
I don't want to get to the border and have to make a run for it.
thanks, Al

I'm not 100% posistive, but I think it depends on how much they were. I know you won't have to pay duty on them, and since they're not being shipped there shouldn't be any paper work or brokerage fees. The best thing to do is phone customs and see.

Codey,
good idea. I just got off the phone with U.S. customs..
they said as long as the speakers were made in the US or Canada.. there won't be any problem. cool
but where are Polk Speakers made? Mexico or somethin I heard.. so this could pose a problem afterall. or not. not sure.
I do need a passport to cross the border though. luckily i have one.

I'm pretty sure Mexico is okay too. I phoned my Dad and asked him, he just went this kind of thing.

Hi Danger Boy,
Are you purchasing used or new speakers? If new, you might want to look into claiming the vistor's GST rebate (i.e. you get the gst back on goods greater $50 and if the total is greater the $200 cdn).
I think Mexico is part of NAFTA now too so you might be okay there too. You'd probably want to check with the customs folk to be sure.

Yup, bringing them back to U.S should not give you any problems.
Bringing them into Canada can cost a few extra Bucks.
Question.
Where up here, can you get Polks at better prices than you have in U.SMarantz SR5400 AVR 6.1

cool guys..
I don't expect any problems either.... crossing the border with a trunk full of used Polk speakers:D i just didn't want to be surprised and then have them confiscated or have to pay a huge brokerage fee.
I'll call customs again before I head up North.

My guess would be the 12c's were made while Polk was still assembling in the US of A...More later,
