is the 7.1 worth the extra cash or should i just go 6.1
if i go 6.1 i will get a cs400 rear
if i go 7.1 i guess its rt35's because there are no 55's any more
what should i do

if you have ths cash the 898 would be sweet! either rec. is great, but that extra channel would add alot to the rear soundstage. plus two 35's can probably be had cheaper than the 400, so there is a little extra to dump into the rec.

I've had the 898 since Dec, and it's great, has clean sound at ref level and higher w/my polk 7600 sub/sat system and SVS SUB.
Now i'm upgrading to 7.1(898 has 7 channels) - I'm adding a pair of 800i's and a new cs400i and moving the 2 front sats to the rear of my HT room to get the 7.1 sound envelopment - -
I kinda debated over the 898 and 797 but i choose to get the 797. Is there really anything that will take advantage of the 7.1 right now. Seems like most of the dvd's still just come out with 5.1 and a few with 6.1. I think with the 7.1 all u need to do is add a amp and speakers and u can have 7.1 I havent really lookoed into the 7.1 stuff a whole lot though.

yeah, there's no 7.1 encoded stuff out there (probably never will be?), but I chose the 898 because it has 7x110 watt/chnl and i won't have to buy an amp when I run 7 spkrs. Also, I liked that it has 192Khz dacs, either way the 797 is a pretty good choice which I almost decided to buy

Both great recievers. I have the 787 running 6.1. If you are pressed for a decision. I would say it depends on the width of the room ---if it is over say 11 feet than 7.1 may be good. I have a 12 foot width with a CS245i and I am very satisfied. 2cents
