RM6000 Subwoofer

I have just purchased a RM6000 speaker system. However I am not getting any sound out of my subwoofer. I have it hooked to my Sony STR-DE945 receiver through the subwoofer output. My receiver can test each speaker individually and I get the test sound from each speaker except the subwoofer. I have just read that I shouldn't hook the subwoofer up to the output but rather wire it to the front speaker jacks. But shouldn't I still be hearing the test sound from the subwoofer?

    check your rcvr settings and make sure the sub is turned on/yes..
    check the sub volume on rcvr and subwoofer...
