Sherwood Separates

Had a pretty trippy experience today. I went into a place called Soundscape here in Santa Rosa. Really cool place. I just went in to look around, and shop for a line conditioner-looking at RGPC or Monster 5100. When I first went in, I was greeted by the owner, who took me around the shop to every room they had, and gave me some info on all of the different speakers and equipment he had in the store.
He carries the LSi line, and I sat in front of a pair of 9's being run off the Parasound Z pre and the HC 750A amp. These suckers are tiny. I was totally blown away by their size. I think stacked together they weren't even as big as a standard kleenex box, and did they ever make those 9's sing. The amp is only rated at 45 wpc, but the 9's sounded better to me off those than they did of a HK 7300 at Fry's.
He then took me to a larger area where he had the new Sherwood separates set up. Read more about them

He told me to lift the preamp, which is as big as a large reciever, and it was as heavy as my B&K 507. This guy carries Parasound Halo among other brands, and he says the Sherwoods are the best he's ever heard. And the pre/amp combo is only $3K. That's pretty impressive. I didn't make him give me a demo, as I'm happy w/ my B&K, and when I mentioned it the guy was very cool. He actually made me feel better about my purchase of the B&K, even tho he doesn't carry the brand anymore.
Thought you guys would want to know about the new units. To give you some background, the owner of this place used to teach speaker design at Cal State Northridge, knows many audio/video big wigs personally, and has been in the business for 30 years. For him to say that a $3k system was the best he's heard, that's pretty amazing.
We chatted for almost an hour about different brands, different equipment, and then we looked at line conditioners. There was no pressure, no sales pushing, we just chatted. It was really cool. There was also a lot of nudist art all over the store, which just kind of made it a little surreal, but it was strangely appropriate.
At one point he even asked me what sub I was using, and I told him I wanted to go w/ a SVS, and he'd never heard of it. So one of his reps looked them up on the web, and came back with a solid affirmative that they use high quality drivers, and he knew instantly the manufacturers who make the drivers. These guys were really cool.
Thought I'd share the experience w/ you guys. I'm sorry I hadn't been in there before. It's really a trippy place. If any Polk employees are reading, Mark is an excellent dealer, and you should be very confident in having the LSi line in his store.

Sounds like it was a very nice visit... thanks for taking the time to share it here...
It is so cool to find an audio dealer who is really into his wares and not just making a living...
Next time, don't forget to ask him what used gear he has laying around... Demo's, trade-ins, etc...

Ive owned the Sherwood Newcastle P-965/A-965 for about 6 months and love them. Until recently they were driving 7 LSi speakers.
I sold (in this forum) the three front LSi speakers when I replaced them with German make ELAC FS 207.2 mains and ELAC CC-200.2 center speaker. The ELAC fronts match well with the LSi7 surrounds and surround back speakers.Best Regards, Cliff
