Nicorette is working for me

Been a smoker for about 6 years. It was getting nasty in the past few months. I was smoking a pack in 2 days! So I finally, said to myself, that's enough. I had my last cig on Thurs around 3pm and went on the gum. It's only been 4 days but damn, I can feel the difference. I can take deeper breaths, throat feels cleaner, I have more energy and I wake up feeling refreshed. Usually I wake up tired and dizzy until I have that first morning cig.
So if any smoker here is trying to quit, give Nicorette a try. There are two strenghts. 2mg of nicotine and 4mg. I went with te 4mg. I usually feel dizzy, anxiety, and get bitchy when I have the craving, but the gum really takes them out. I noticed that it takes about 20 mins for the craving to go away when I start chewing after meals. On an empty stomach, it's much faster. If anyone decides to try the gum, make sure you read the instruction on proper chewing. If you chew it like a normal gum, you'll end up with an upset stomach. That's what happened to me until I read the instructions.
Man, I'm feeling good. It's been 5 weeks since I smoked MJ and 4 days since I had a cig.

Congratulations on quitting smoking. May I suggest that you quit the gum. You see, nicotene is the addiction (duh). Therefore, the only way possible to break the addiction is to get off the drug. Substituting the gum is better for your lungs... but, its not really breaking the addiction.
I think tapering off the nicotene doesn't really help either. People that have quit will take one cigg a few months later and be hooked again. Even a little nicotene in your system is dangerous to your addiction.
There will be pain associated with quitting. I know that if you see your doctor, he can prescribe you some Wellbutrin which will help with the withdrawl symptoms. Thats the smart way to quit easy. The antidepressant isn't addictive - yet, it counteracts the withdrawl symptoms -- taking the pain out of breaking the physical addiction.
Many people who couldn't quit... became capable of quitting with the help of a harmless antidepressant. Its a great solution.
Good luck.

Wellbutrin/Zyban helps, but it certainly doesn't make it 'easy.' Nonetheless congrats on your efforts to quit.

Thanks guys. It's been 5 days now and today seems to be the toughest day so far. The craving is hitting me hard but I'm a fighter. I'll just keep singing that Queen song in my head, "We are the champions, my friends. And we'll keep on fighting till the end".:D
Ron,
I'm following Nicorrete's quitting quide. They recommend 10-20 pieces a day for the first month, 5-10pcs on the second and 1-2pcs for the 3rd month. I just feel that slowly reducing the nicotine from my system is the best way for me. I'm on my first week and I'm only chewing about 5 or 6 pieces a day. I wait until the craving gets pretty bad and then I chew.

Hey Maurice,
If the gum works for you great.
I'm just thinking that this isn't heroin. Its not like your body needs to be weaned off the drug. Its nicotene. It just takes a few ciggs to get hooked (not a lot of the drug). So, to me, it doesn't make sense to keep introducing the drug into your system in an effort to quit.
Or, said differently, its no different than weaning yourself off ciggs (nicotene) by smoking lady-ciggs and then smoking only half a lady-cigg.
I've quit two times. The first time was just cold-turkey. It was absolute hell for a good 3 or 4 weeks.
The 2nd time I quit, I was on an Wellbutrin and I experienced heck (significantly less than hell) for about 3 days.
I would never consider re-introducing Nicotene into my system because I know for a fact that without Wellbutrin, I could have never kicked the addiction.
Just passing on some info dude. Best wishes.

Best results come from gradually eliminating the nicotine from your system. From all the cigs there have been receptor changes in the brain and elsewhere that freak out if you totally take the receptor agonist away. Chewing the gum is a good way to quit. Stay the course.
