This is one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. It is intense from the very first second, til the end. It ranks up there with Seven and Silence of The Lambs.

Do yourself a favor and don't read anything about this movie and go see it. (that is of course if you like horror movies)

wow...we have totally different opinions...i think this movie sucked ****
the 2 main actors were horrible at acting
75% of the movie took place in a room thats 15x15 ft big
there were maybe like 10 different settings...minus the cheesy, horribly filmed car chase
i wasnt expecting the ending though...but i knew from the start who the killer was
i dont like how it left you hanging at the end...dear God i hope theres not a sequel

Yeah, looks like people either love it or hate it. I'll agree the acting wasn't the best but there are definitely some original ideas (or at least I haven't seen the movies they were copied from). I really liked how we didn't have to wait 20-30 minutes for something to happen. I got a kick out of the "devices".

it had a good story behind it but it got kind of boring b/c the entire movie was in the one room
there was only one real scary part in the movie

Will definetly give Saw a good look, the best "confined space" movies I can remember that are somewhat recent where people wake up and dont know where or what their in were Cube and Cube 2.

I honestly don't ever remember thinking this was a scary movie. From square one it seemed like a twisted, demented, "OMG that's just wrong" kind of movie. I finally "saw" it last night and all I have to say is.... WOW! Amazing movie. I absolutely LOVED it. It's very much so on the same wave length as Se7en but IMO better. Sure the acting wasn't the best (nor the worst mind you) but who cares? I'm done with criticing movies on how the acting is, unless it's so bad you can see people reading cue cards. If you're reading THAT deep into a movie, you're watching for the WRONG reason. It's there to entertain you, and this one did just that. I forgot to mention, I love f***ed up movies. haha

well if i see a serious movie then i want to have it believeable...good acting makes or breaks a movie IMO--and ive seen better acting from Halle Berry in Catwoman than the 2 main characters in saw

I heard that the young main character is also the writer. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Same here Toxi, I didn't see it so much as a scary movie, but as a "geez this is really effed up" kind of movie.

Were you guys watching the same movie that I was?

Probably less than half of the movie was in that decripid old bathroom.

I didn't see any acting as lame. Maybe some reactions to situations were lame and movie jumped about a bit but overall, I thought it was well done. Especially since there was about 6 different stories being told throughout the whole movie.

I also don't recall seeing a "car cahase scene". There was a scene where Danny Glover was driving a car quickly behind one of the characters in the film but he was considerably far behind. It wasn't a chase scene like what was in Gone In 60 Seconds. I got the impression that the director just wanted you to see that Glover's character was just trying to make it to the same location as the other character as quickly as possible.

Overall, I found the movie very intriquing and what a "horror" movie should be. I'd classify it more as a thriller though.

My overall assessment was that it was one screwed up movie! However, what made it so great was that the writer and director did not achieve thier "fear factor" by playing loud music or flashing stuff at the screen. It was the situations and story that actually struck fear in the hearts of the audience. When you can sit in a theater and the only time that the theater makes ANY sound is during a particularly gory moment with a hack saw that you don't even see....THAT is a good horror movie! Just sitting there and watching the situation unfold is scary enough. It's a psychological thriller that execises your mind with graphic illustrations. It's twisted and will make you really think about what is important in your life. I like it immensly and I'd recommend it to anyone but be warned, it will make you think, it will make you upset. It's not for the light-hearted. It will affect you, it affected me and horror movies don'
t scare me. Real life is scary enough, a file rarely makes me feel horror. This one did, it gets to you and that is what makes it so good.

So don't listen to the people who couldn't wrap thier minds around teh depth of the story in this movie. Ignore what they think is poor cinematography and go see this movie. Even if you have to steal it, go see it. 'Cause the only way you will understand the title is to watch the movie.

Dude, I agree wholeheatedly! I wouldn't call it a horror movie either. It did remind me of Se7en a bit but the twisted ness of the villan and the whole situation reminded me of 8MM and Phonebooth. 8MM was incredibly twisted and I would not even recommend watching it but the sad thing is that the whole story behind the movie is based in reality and snuff films are out there. Also, Phonebooth was a pleasant surprise. It was actually quite good and the whole thing took place in a phonebooth. Says something about the acting ability involved when a movie shot on a street side phone booth could keep you so rivited. Check those out if you haven't seen them!

As far as reading into a movie, if you'r egoing to a movie expecting a cinematic masterpiece that is going to provide you with a life changing event then you really gotta re-evaluate your life. It's just a movie and if you go in expecting anything more than to be entertained then you are setting yourself up for a dissappointment. When I think a movie is bad, it's probably because I was bored during the screening.
