Hi,
Came across a great deal for the 10a pair and could not pass it up. They are mint condition wth original stands (which I am not using at this moment)
Now, my first question is this: the tweets sound a bit harsh, is there an upgraded tweet that can be installed in the same hole? Or, is it an upgrade to the crossover that is needed?
Great to find this forum. Thanks for any responses.

Do you have your treble set on zero on the reciever, or do you have it cranked up a couple notches?

Yes, I believe there is a Rubberized Silk replacement tweeter that is indeed an upgrade available from Polk!

Your 10A's have the SL2000 tweeter, which was replaced by the SL2500 in the later Monitor 10's. You might want to upgrade to the SL2500 tweeters. I don't know if you'd have to modify the crossover at all for the different tweeters. As far as I know, though, they're a direct drop-in replacement. I think that you'd enjoy the newer tweeters more. I'm not sure that they can still be purchased from Polk, but they should be able to as they last produced the Monitor 10 line in the early 90's.Ludicrous gibs!

I looked around the home page and could not find a link to purchase older drivers.

Sanfelice,
Polk no longer sells the SL2000, SL2500 or SL3000, however they do have a replacement available and the only one you want is the SL2000 replacement. You can place your order with Helen or Ken by calling Polk, but they are out of stock until Nov. 8th, so you'll have to wait until then.
I don't know what gear you're running, but you might want to look at that aspect too as some gear is inherently bright.Political Correctness'.........defined

You would want to call 1-800-377-7655 to order replacement parts. There is no online store, you have to call Polk directly. Make sure you mention that you are a member of Club Polk.... you get a discount.Ludicrous gibs!

Is the SL2000 replacement tweeter an upgrade from the original? I don't think there is really anything "wrong" with my tweeter, except that it is inherently bright. Kind of harsh on some classical pieces and dance music.
If I were to find an SL2500, would that be a good thing?
Thanks for any and all advice to this new Polkie. -
One more time...the SL2500 wasn't designed to work with the crossover in your speakers. The original SL2000 has a 5dB spike between 12kHz and 13kHz and that is what you're hearing. The new replacement tweeter does not have the spike, therefore it's the better tweeter.
Out of curiosity, what gear are you running?Political Correctness'.........defined

it has a small hole in the middle of the dome. all black with four screws surrounding the dome (I assume to hold the driver in the mount). I took it out and there is no designation on the back just numbers. the serial # starts with "75..." though if that helps. -
You did not need to take it out... if it has a hole, it's a Peerless...
Also has 2 "lines" in the mouting plate that run from the edge of the dome down, one towards the lower left and the other towards the lower right corner... Correct?

I have a pair of Polk Audio 10a's and have recently put in a home theatre system. I'm ready to get rid of these big things. Is there a market anywhere for these. They are in very good condition! Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks -
You can post a for sale thread here on Club Polk, down in the Flea Market section. Being a new member, please make sure that you describe the speakers to the best of your ability, and take many pictures to share so that we can see the condition ourselves.
Also, allowing for demos and local pickup will help your sale around here. If you can't sell them here, you can try eBay, but it's recommended to try here first. There are many vintage Polk enthusiasts here...Ludicrous gibs! -
zoesmom, please also list your location, so any potential buyers will know where the speakers are located. No address.. just the city please.
thanks and good luck.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
