I am lookin to build my first HT. I got a Hitachi 57" rptv last year but need the sound to match it. I just got a Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver and need to decide on speakers. I have a large "open" floor plan. Approx. 35'x 20'. These will be used almost exclusively for movies. Thinking of the LSI line but don't know if these are best for movies. My other choice is a set of RTI's. Is there a preffered type that work best with movies?
Samsung PN60E6500
Denon AVR-E300
Mains: LSI9s
Center: LSIC
Surrounds: LSIFX
Subs: Two Atlas 12's with Rythmik 350W amps in ported 95L box.
Power: Monster 2600 power conditioner

They are both great lines for music speakers, which almost always makes for outstanding HT speakers.

You need to first listen to both, and see which you like better, and decide which models fall into your budget. The LSi line could demand a little more of the back end (amp / receiver) than the RTi line.

That's a big room, I would think identical shelf speakers (from either line) all the way around, with a good sub would be phenonenal. Almost point-source in imaging.

Welcome to our humble, online audio abode.

    Cheers,

    Welcome to the forum.

    I like the LSi's.

Most people say they need a separate amplifier, but I've been happy with my Yammaha receiver(older, but has a lot of power).
With the size room you have, you will need a lot of power.

    Two questions:
What type of budget do you have to work with?
Is the receiver returnable if you decide to go with LSi's and separates?

    Have fun with your system.
    Tschüss

I am looking at the LSI9's as the top end of my budget. I may also piece together the system over time. First the two mains, then a sub, then center, then surrounds. I just want to get the best bang for the buch for my application. I could probably sell the receiver for almost what I paid but I do like all of it's features. It has preouts so can't I just use those to drive the LSI fronts but still use the receiver for the others and for the basic signal processing?

    Update

Here is a list of what should be arriving this week:

    Fronts LSI9s $550 (used)
    Center LSIC $380 (new)
    SUB SVS PB10-ISD $399 (new)
Monster 2600 power conditioner $130 (used)
    Yamaha RX-V1500 receiver $580 (new)

    Surrounds: LSIFX
