Need help with surround speaker choice.

Hello- I have a small problem with home theater setup and could use some advice. I own the Polk RT800 fronts, cs400 center, an infinity bu-120 sub, and am looking to purchase some rears. I am moving into a new house in a couple of weeks, and the layout of my home theater area leaves me with one option for mounting my rear speakers. I have to mount them about about five feet behind the main listening area, and on the side walls about six feet above the floor. I ordered the f/x 500i's from brandnamez, but found out they are out of stock but getting more in next week. I really want these speakers, and for $330 including shipping, it is a great deal. I just cannot afford to pay 500 plus tax for these speakers from a authorized retailer. I just bought a new denon avr 3802 receiver and my funds for a/v equipment are running low. Are the f/x 500i's the best match for my other speakers and my room setup?( rears mounted behind and on the side of the room.) Would the rt 35's or maybe one of the new Lsi surround speakers work better? Any other alternatives? Please help me. Thanks

did you order 2 pairs of the f/x500i's? you mention positioning them both on the rear and sides of the rooms. i beleive that the best set-up for a 7.1 channel system (which seems to be what you are desribing) would be f/x500i's on the sides set to dipole and rt35i's on the rear wall firing forward. THX suggests the dipole sides and direct radiating speakers for the rear centers.

I am not setting up a 7.1 system. I am setting up a 5.1 system, but my two rear speakers have to be mounted behind as well as to the side of the main listening area as opposed to mounting the two either directly to the side or directly behind.

The 500i's are the PERFECT match with your fronts and center; the only question here is going to be how you use them. I have the Denon2802 and I believe we have the same setup options. I think that the best way to utilize the 500i's, would be to mount them parallel with your seating position(couch or whatever), set to Di-Pole, and someone please help me with the elevation and speaker direction. You could then add a CS245i as your rear speaker and position it in roughly the same height/distance relationship as your CS400i, only it would be behind you. I think that would be a splendid configuration if you have the room at your sides for the 500i's, and can get the CS245i (they're dirt cheap right now). That's just an idea, but I think your Denon3802's manual shows this speaker configuration, and you're one speaker short of having it. You could even add two rear speakers, say the RT35i's, but I believe your Denon will want a separate amp to drive them for a 7.1 setup. I am in the exact same speaker boat, by the way. I don't need two rears, but instead really want the CS245i to round out my 6.1 system. Good luck with your decision, I'm sure other people will have some suggestions too.

ok, i misunderstood, when you said to the rear and sides, i thought you were talking about two sperate applications. if using the f/x500i's, which i think mate perfectly with your system, is there anyway possible to mount them on the side walls and set to dipole as opposed to on the rear wall, or is this the only option available? if so, placed here in the bipole mode shoudl stil give you a great rear soundstage...

How many weeks has Brandnamez been telling you that your surrounds were out of stock and would be available the following week. I have been waiting for mine for about 3 weeks now?

Brandnamez said they have been waiting a long time for this new shipment, but they said they are supposed to come in this week. I don't know. I have been waiting for about a week and a half.

Juice- They will be mounted to the side, but not directly parallel with the listening area (the main couch). They will be a few feet behind the couch (not parallel with couch) because that is the only setup my room will permit. If I have them like this and set them to dipole, I will be out of the null area if I am sitting on the couch. How will they work if I have them set up like this and have them on bipole?

they will proabably still work better in di-pole even if you are not sitting 'in-line' with them where they are mounted on the side walls. it you want to try a bi-pole set-up, mount them on the rear wall, above listening level about 8 feet apart centered on listening position (if possible). when you get them, try both ways and see which works best with your room acoustics. these are designed to be a very flexible speaker.
i hope you guys get the f/x's from brandnamez soon!
