component video cables

are they essentially a regualr RCA cable with colored tips ? does their composition differ from an analoge cable ?

    should be the same as the regular RCA cable, except with better shielding materials...:)

    It depends. Good component video cables will be terminated with tight tolerance 75 ohm RCA plugs and will have a well shielded coaxial type cable capable of passing high bandwidth video signals.

    If you're asking whether the generic yellow/red/white audio cables that still come as freebies can be used to connect a DVD player with the component inputs on a TV, the answer is yes, but the picture quality won't be what it should be with progressive scan DVD signals or high definition television signals.

    Excellent quality doesn't have to be expensive. Check out Signal Cable or Blue Jeans Cable for excellent component video cables. I had previously been using Monster Video 3 component cables prior to getting a set from Blue Jeans Cable. The Blue Jeans cable was significantly better and cheaper too.
