So who is picking up the Superbit version of this one tomorrow? I'm guessing it will be another one to my collection.

    Hey...

The DTS track is a plus, but the super bit video rating should make Kate Beckingsale look more romantic and beautiful in the dark scene. You should also get Vanhelsing DVD since she is in it..."Serendipity" with John Cusack is a pretty classic...

    Go for it...

    Cheers:)

Can someone post their opinions on the A/V difference between the earlier DD 5.1 versions and the Superbit version?

I have the 2-disc extended version which I think is awesome, but I believe the SB version is only the theatrical release.

    Thanks

I picked this and four other Superbits up last night at BB. They are still $9.99.

I had never seen the movie and ,quite frankly, I was pleasantly surprised with the flick. It had a good story and it was fairly well acted and directed, imo. I'm sure that ya'll could pick it apart like every other movie someone someone says they enjoyed, but it won't ruin it for me, too late :p .

I also picked up "SWAT", "Legends of the Fall", "Snatch", and "Seven Years in Tibet".

I misread the the site. I thought it said there was another Underworld movie already out.
Until last night, I knew very little about the movie.

What did you think of it?

Me too. I saw the first when it came out in theaters and thought it was great and bought it pretty soon after it was released on DVD.

I think Kate Beckinsale is one of the hottest chicks on the planet so Id watch anything she's in just because she's in it.

I have the regular and Superbit DVDs. The PQ quality is maybe slightly better? but the DTS track is noticeably better IMO.

I was disappointed by Underworld Superbit version, I think because the DD track is already so "overcooked" that there isn't much difference. PQ looked the same too.

Has anyone else had any issues with the SBs not being read or very slowly being read by your dvd player??
I've watched SWAT and Underworld and they both took me forever to get them to load and play.
When I put Snatch in it started right up.
Mine is a Sony PSCAN DVD/vcr combo. I know it's not the greatest and I'm about to upgrade to an upconversion Toshiba.

Why do you need "upconversion"? Does your TV have a crappy scaler? What TV do you have? What is your TV's native resolution?

I have a 30" widescreen Philips HDTV(TUBE) and watch all my dvds in 480p, but would like to watch them in near HD to see the difference, plus I just want a better DVD player anyways. I'm not too into HT and watch everything in 2.1 with Dolby Virtual on and it sounds just fine to me through the SDA 2As.

    I might be getting a 32" LCD flat panel this week that's 1366 x 768 or a 37" LCD flat panel that's 1924 x 1080p.

DOH! The marketing department has got a hold of you! Break free! I will set you free!

Your Philips TV already "upconverts" to 1080i (its native resolution). The "native resolution" is what your TV actually displays. Different TV's have different native resolutions. It will take the signal you send it, and convert it to 1080i every time.

DVD's are 480, period. No DVD player will make them look "near HD".

The DVD player could make an improvent IF,
    1. it has a better chip than your current DVD player, or
    2. it has a better scaler than your TV, or
    3. combination of 1 and 2.

Give this page time to load, it is your friend. Read about what the tests mean.

Video processing has come aways in the past 2 years. You are right, you won't get HD quality, but this is what my ATI video card can do. I would think a GOOD upscaling DVD player can do as well (or better). This is better than my old Toshiba 3900 on a 1080i HDTV:
    Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70

Like I said, I'm not into to the whole HT thing, so I'm not up on all the new ****, hell, or even the old ****, either. :D

I just know what has good PQ and SQ and I've yet to see anything top the tube tvs, but they just can't seem to make me a 37-43 inch widescreen CRT, the largest is still 34". I really don't care if it's 24" deep and weighs 350lbs as long as the picture is nice and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Now, I do like the flat panels and that 2 million pixel 37" lcd I'm looking at is as close as I've seen so far.

I just hear too many negatives to the plasmas, but I'm not too sure how much of it is still true. For instance, I've always been under the impression that one shouldn't play video games on plasmas or rp tvs. Now someone told me that isn't true anymore  I also thought that it was okay to do so with DLP and I've been told that isn't true either.

Oh well, I'll just not let the boys play games on the new tv no matter what I get. They can use the CRTs that we have for games.

You're right about the tube TV's, they are still the best quality. Our two-year old 40" Sony XBR tube that has been running 24x7 for the last two years, beats our current model Sony LCD's in PQ.

I have hope in Samsung for the tube TV department. I'm hoping they'll make a larger version of their Slim Line tube. I applaud them for taking the time to improve tubes.
