Question about PSW450 placement

After having purchased my PSW450 over a couple of weeks ago, I find that I'm still tinkering with what the right placement or angle it should be at. This morning I decided to run the speaker wires from the receiver to my sub and then to the tower speakers I have. This sounds good because my towers do have a good substantial amount of bass that they can reproduce.
As you can see from the attached pic, my living room is very open. To the right of the right speaker is the entrance to the kitchen which is very wide. I currently have the sub placed underneath that glass table on the left of the pic angled directly towards the camera right now. Things sound pretty good but I'm concerned that there might be a problem since it's literally right next to the left speaker. I tried pointing the sub towards the kitchen (right of the pic) but noticed that low sounds weren't as prevalent. I guess the waves were going towards the kitchen since they weren't bouncing off walls or anything.
What do you guys think of this placement? I also have one last option of where to put the sub and that's right next to me below the left surround speaker pointing towards the TV. However, with this setup, wouldn't the lower bass ranges definitely cancel each other out with those from the tower speakers? BTW, the towers have (1) 12" woofer and (1) 10" woofer built in non powered a midrange and tweeter. These speakers are super old and I plan on replacing them with RT600is or RT800is.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Nice setup you have there.
If it were me, I would move your component cabinets to the corners, and lose the center connecting piece.
Your mains are crowded and unable to open up until passing around the cabinets.
Place the mains next to the tv, and the center atop the tv.
Your cabinets have a screened front on the bottom, will your sub fit into the bottom of one of the cabinets?
If so, you can cut out the back enough to enable airflow and reduce echo.
If it won't fit, I would go back to the LFE cable and work it into a corner-esque position facing into the center of the room.
Without seeing a layout of your room I can't say if this would be feasible.
I'm running dual 450 subs front side, placed just to the sides of my mains, facing slightly in to the sweetspot.
When the cannons fire, we feel it.

i have herd the best way to maximise your bass from your sub is to put your sub where you sit and crall around nu your hands and knees around the outside of the room and find the loudest sounding point and put your sub there.

Think Goingganzo has a good idea, and...
you can locate all those gummy bears and popcorn
seeds you've dropped over the years.

ganzo does have the ideal way to discern where the best placement for your sub will be. i would suggest this as well.
nice set-up and welcome to the forum...:D -
Thanks guys. I'll try this out and see how it turns out.

What are those 'old' speakers?
Cheers,
RussCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
trubluluc, unfortunately the bottom screened areas are too small for the 450. I'm sure the 350 would have fit nicely in there. Currently, it's holding my wine bottles and stuff. As for the rest of my layout, here's the other side of the room.
And Russman, those old tower speakers are something called KLA Accoustics. I bought them up here in Toronto over 12 years ago at a place called Majestic Warehouse (closed as of a 5 years ago). I think I paid something like $500 for them at the time and I remember having a fun time putting them into my Chevette back then. They "claim" to handle over 300watts and some ridiculous hz range like from 20hz - 30kHz. I don't know about those specifications but I can easily "clip" them whenever I crank the volume above the 12 o 'clock mark.LoboTiger

You are either a civilized man,
or under the influence of a woman.
Same here...er..the latter.
Lotta furniture in that there room.
In this case I would put the sub under the front corner of that table in the alcove, facing out into the room.
Trying to use the little corner to the best effect.
How do you like your cabinets?
I've seen them or something like them at Circuit City, pretty good looking, pretty costly.
I keep threatening to build my own, which of course justifys my other hobby, tool acquistion.
But so far...I've just got alot of tools.

Before I worried about the sub I would move your center channel from that shelf and place it on the tv to localize the vocals.

yup, that living room was totally my wife's idea. She didn't go for the leather couches and stuff. That's alright, she can have the living room...I want the basement! <evil grin> The cabinets are pretty cool. They house everything I have but yes, they were very expensive. I dished out about $2500 CDN back a couple of years ago when I bought them.
Hunter, yeah, I plan on moving the centre back down to sit on top of the TV. I had it placed there originally but the bass from my towers (while watching Saving Private Ryan) would start to move it and I was worried that it would eventually fall. Now a days, I keep an eye out for every little piece of home decor to make sure it doesn't fall while watching movies. I can't tell you how many times those candles on that cheap mantle above the fireplace have come crashing down.LoboTiger
