she needs a little work...

Engine is seized, valve cover, starter, and plugs have been removed for years, as has the oil pan. You can tell the general state from the pics :-/

My dad and I are planning on restoring it. He bought the truck in '82 and one day he went out after not running it for about a month and the engine was seized. The last inspection sticker is '87.

We're undecided as to what we want to do with it. It would be nice to have it the original color (the green that the firewall is painted), and we're figuring out whether we want to keep a straight 6 or drop a v-8 in it. It would be much more streetable with a crate v-8. Note the stock HP is 85 :)

You can see it's in pretty rough shape, but it's been rotting since '87. It'll take some work, but should be a fun project.

    Any suggestions are welcome...

You know that camper top will be a real "Babe Magnet" when you're finished.

Heh... that's going to the junk yard... probably this weekend. It's for my dad's other truck, but we haven't used it in years. It's just been keeping all the crap in the bed of that truck dry since we moved into this house (~8 years)

Awesome! I'd love to do that to a car. There's Fairlane 500 for sale up the street; man, that'd be nice....

Go with the V-8!! and keep us posted!

Great job on that one, blueMD

    Josh,

It's hard to see the little chrome ram (original) on the radiator cowl:

'32 Dodge D-2 five window coup with opera roof (replaced with glass moonroof)
350 bored .030 over, bowtie heads, mild cam
    Edelbrock 600 cfm 4bbl carb
    THD 350 trans, Lokar shifter
    Steering by Armstrong
All original metal except rear fenders

awesome ride; seeing how you've bored over, I guess you've gone for performance. What kinda figures are you making? Probably about 400hp? Maybe the same torque? Do you ever race it? Fill me in here.

    F1

awesome offroader. Do you ever take it off road? Whatcha got in it? Didn't know Chevy made Suburbans like that; I've seen the really old ones and then the ones from the 80's, though. What size tires are those?

Man, that's just the thing I wanna do one day. Take some old car and just redo it. I've always wanted to do it on a late '60s Camaro, but I've just recently decided a 2nd generation Camaro might not be bad. There's an old Ford Fairlane 500 up the street that I think it'd be real cool to work on. I haven't stopped to look at it (want to), but from what I can tell it looks pretty solid. I think it'd just be the grandest fun to have somethin' like that that you could not care about and just have tons of fun on. Then, you could also learn a ton on workin' on it. All well, maybe in a few decades....:(

You two will have a blast! I love old step side trucks, always wanted to do one.

Suggestion: take a ton of pictures as you progress through the project. You'll be glad you did. (and please share some with us from time to time)

Sweet car, BlueMDPicker. My Dad has got a '40 Ford. The body styles are very similar between the two. He has much the same setup as you. I don't know all the specs, but I do know that he's got a 350 5.7L V8 out of a Chevy Z71 that's been bored out to a 383. It has got tons of power. It will throw you back into the seat when you accelerate. For such a heavy car, it really hauls ****. It's an original '40 steel body. I'll have to see if he can email me some pics that I can post. Everything on it is custom, from the dyed leather dash, to the leather and tweed interior roof.

One car that I would like to re-finish if I had the time, money, and space is my family's 1929 Model-A Ford. It has been in my family for 75 years and is in remarkable shape. My Dad and Grandfather restored it back in the '60's but it needs another restoration. It would run fine, but the battery charger needs to be replaced and the exhaust is all rusted out. It's got the original 4-cylinder engine in it with a three-speed shifter.

Just to be clear, I use to own that truck along time ago.

Yes I did, but not often.......too big. Chevy 327 w/double hump heads, bored .030, Holley 4 barrel, dual exhaust, Turbo 400 tranny, 4:11 rears, custom springs, shocks and power steering added. It was called a Suburban Carry All, they usually had 4 drs. and double back doors. This one only had 2 drs. and a lift tailgate. Tires were 33 x 12.5 if I remember right.

My girlfriend at the time had to ride with her arms folded under her rather large ta-ta's..lol, said it hurt otherwise.
