polk subs shutting down

I have a psw1200 and 2 rt3000p bass units in a system that is otherwise non-polk.
Does anyone else have either of these two type subs and have problems with the protection circuits kicking in during movie or music where there are long stretches with deep bass content. I'm guessing the internal amps are going past the amount of time that they can pump out their peak power output because the cooling fins never seem to be particularly warm.
This happens at high volume levels (obviously) but nowhere near what I'd expect.
Btw, if you live within driving distance of Crutchfield outlet store they're having a big sale and have a number of the psw1200's, scratch and dent, for $490.

My RT1000i's turn off when there is no bass sent to them and this get kind of annoying because everytime they turn on and off they make a *click* noise. I haven't ever had a problem where the protection system kicks in and turns them off. I also don't own a Polk sub.
Hope this adds to the confusion, I mean conclusion.

Octong's problem is not the auto on/off problem, it's actually the sub's amp not able to sustain peak power for long.
I guess the receiver's subwoofer output might be too low while your sub's amp volume is set too high. One thing you can try is lowering the sub's volume dial and cranking up the subwoofer level on the receiver; that should maintain your overall bass volume while possibly not taxing the sub's amp as much. This is speculation though; I might be wrong. -

Where are these stores located? I didn't see any mention of them on their website....

The outlet store is in Charlottesville, VA where Crutchfield corp is located. They use it primarily as a way to get rid of the inventory of returned/repaired/dinged that is generated by their phone/catalog/web sales. The also have an outlet in Harrisonburg Va as well but I've never been to that one and am not sure if they're having the sale as well.
I think they are planning on opening some more outlets in different areas at some point but have no idea when or where.
