1.2 TL Bass Response versus SDA SRS

I recently upgraded my SDA SRS to SDA SRS 1.2tl. They are powered by a Luxman R-117. I have noticed a distinct difference in bass response between the two sets.

Although it seems that the 1.2tls have a slightly lower frequency response overall, there doesn't seem to be as much emphasis on the upper end of the scale (120 Hz or so is my guess). I don't have my EQ hooked up, so I really can't pin point it.

Basically, the 1.2tls sound better on certain songs whilst the original SDA SRS sound better on others. In my opinion, the 1.2tls are superior on all aspects of the high notes. But certain low notes seem to lack punch and dare I say it, perhaps a bit "boomy" compared the original.

e.g. Eagles "Hotel California" from the Hell Freezes Over CD has boomy, less full bass on the 1.2tl as opposed to the SDA SRS even though the overall response seems to be deeper.

Bass on Madonna's "Vogue" is better on the 1.2tls than on the SDA SRS but bass performance on Starship's "Set the Night to Music" is not nearly as good as it is on the SDA SRS.

Has anyone noticed the same thing?

The TL line uses Monocque(sp) construction and uses a much more solid cabinet

What you are hearing is the cabinet bringing emphasis on the bass while the 1.2TL has no emphasis

I think he's trying to tell you that the SRS has more cabinet resonance than the TL's.

    Sid??

That's how I took it, but that would make the SRS sound more "boomy" which is not the case. The 1.2tls do on certain songs. Perhaps my ears aren't adjusted properly. Repeat after me... it's all in my head! But I don't think so, yet!

Yes, the SRS cabinet should resonate more than the TL...

Everyone hears things differently...nothing wrong with your ears

I think the construction of the 1.2's and 1.2TL's eliminates resonance in the mid-bass (actually the lower mid bass) more so than in the lower bass. Personally I like the SDA-SRS a little better myself. The high end of both sets is very good.
