Question concerning Athena Point 5 MKII's...

Stupid question here. In the manual, it suggests setting ALL of the speakers to "LARGE". Is this safe? I've got 'em set to "SMALL" with the crossover set at 100hz. Should I go against my gut, and go with the manual?

Are you using the Athena subwoofer? I think that recommendation for LARGE is when you have the speakers running thru the sub and have the dial on the front of the sub set for S.5. That sends the full signal to the subwoofer and its internal crossover directs the right frequencies to the speakers.

I have those speakers with a CHT-8 in my bedroom - pretty nice speakers considering I paid $199 for 4 sats and a center at BB.

That would be true for the mains, but not the surrounds...

    MS,
All to large will tax your amp to a greater degree, and so yes, the perils (of clipping) are increased.

That said, many here do run all on Large and like it that way. You may prefer it as well. And so long as you are judicous in setting your listening level, the increase in risk may not be significant. The more powerful your amp, the less the risk as well.

Multiple bass radiators do complicate bass management and increase the chances of significant areas of weak (nulls) and exaggerated (reinforced) bass occurring. The deeper your speakers dig, the more likely a problem this will be. So if your speakers are modest in their bottom end capabilities, again you may not develop issues here.

Try it both ways... and see what your ears tell you. But listen in more than just your personal "sweet spot".
    More later,
    Tour...

Thanks for the replies. I am NOT using the Athena subwoofer, nor am I running the speakers through the subwoofer I am using. I've listened to the system with both large and small settings, along with the different crossovers, and I think I'm happiest with small setting, and the 100hz crossover point. Thanks.
