Hi guys,
Last night I stopped by CC and bought a pair of 800i's (factory sealed) for $269 ea, they being shipped from a CC warehouse for free since they didn't have any left in the store - should get them by next wed/thu. I really liked how they sounded, CC demo room had similat stuff to what i already have at home, so I was able to do a very 'rough approximation of my system in their store - they had the Onkyo 898(which I have), RM7200's (I have the 7600), PSW450 or 350 (I have the 650 and an SVS 16-46PC sub), and they also had the Polk dipoles (forgot which model) . . anyway, we had all 7 channels running for the demo and I was so impressed!
I watched the sales guy check the nationwide CC inventory (regular warehouse an e-commerce warehouse) on the 800i's, and it looks like they only have 3 pairs left that are factory new
Here's my questions and new set up:
-Onkyo 898
-RM7600 center spkr
-RM7600 sats (2 for surround-back, and 2 for l/r back)
-Rt-800i l/r front
-*PSW650 sub
-*SVS 16-46PC sub
1. did anyone find a lower price than $269/pr?
2. Set all my sprs to "SMALL", and then . . . run both the 650 sub and the SVS sub via line level split from my rcvr's LFE jack to both sub's LFE inputs - will this cause any problems with "double-filtering' effect on the polk sub?
Also, I plan to get a parameteric EQ to tame/tweak the peaks/valleys in SPL repsonse in the low bass regions - I have yet to plot these values, but I know I have the pks/vllys as I can hear them when running AVIA
Thanks for all your input

nice purchase, your set-up is going to be sweet!
to answer your questions..
1. you got them cheaper than i did, DAMN YOU!!!:D
(really 269/pr, or 269/ea.???) either way, you beat me.
2. using the LFE out, you shouldn't have an issue with double filtering on your subs. someone else may want to answer this though, as i do not own a polk or svs sub...
enjoy your speakers when they arrive....:D -
you can actually experiment with setting your mains to large or small when listening in DD, using the LFE out will send the bass to the subs either way. i actaully have my 800's set to large, i have to set them to small when listening in stereo though, or my reciever nixes the signal to the sub...

Good Job! The RT800i's were my second choice though I went with the 1000i's. I debated the two for some time and then went with the 1000i's. You got them for a great price and your system should sound awesome!
BTW, you can hardly ever say that the room you demoed them in was exactly like your room in your house because CC demo rooms sound so much different. The shape, size, and volume of the room directly relate to how the speaker sounds. So to do a far comparison you probably have to take them home and to a side by side comparison. I am not saying that I did this but when I upgraded to a really decent pair of speakers like ($5000 or above) I will definitely take them home and demo them.
Good Job though and most importanly ENJOY THEM! -
Thats a great price for new in the box.. I got mine for less..but they were open box.. someone had upgraded... you got a good deal
-
I haven't found them for cheaper than that. 269/ea is a great price! Congrats!

Fry's Electronics in CA has been blowing them out at 399 a pair.

I recently picked up pair of 55i for $279, pair of 800is for $399, (2)pairs of 1000is for $499 ... all at Fry's down here in San Diego... I'm setting up a 7.1 channel movie room but now I'm also going w/ a 5.1 in the family room as well ..... I couldn't pass up these deals!! Although.. one pair of the 1000's were open box... since it was their last set.... good luck hunting

holy crap, I wish we had a Fry's in Flordida!!! You lucky ****!

EQ is fine for reducing PEAKs in in-room bass, but not so good for eliminating valleys or troughs, and can actually overload your driver or amp if you do so. Why? Because valleys caused by "nulls" in in-room Standing Waves, are a function of the room itself - if you try to boost the affected frequency, the bass doesn't get LOUDER, but your driver and/or amp might overload, distort, etc. If you have valleys, you might want to experiment and change the sub locatgion or listening seat location. A difference of just a foot or 2 might be significant.

That's right baby... ohhh yea! It is border line criminal!! -
JUice, sorry . . I meant $269 for EACH 800i. Those of you who paid less, congrats! My only complaint, and it's not a big one, is that the base looks 'plasticky' - can't wait to integrate these into my system!
Anyway, just to make sure . . . I plan to use a 'y' RCA line level to split the bass from my rcvr's LFE out to each of my subs and then experimant with the mains by setting them LARGE or SMALL, and all the other sats to small. Does this sound ok to everyone . . . does anyone know if there will be a problem w/'double filtering' on the 650 sub itself?
