I'm from Jersey, but right now I'm in Rhode Island, and everyone at this school is a Red Sox fan. As I'm watching the game in my room, you can hear people outside, in other rooms, everywhere, yelling and screaming whenever something happens. After they won, everyone on campus went nuts. Last year there were riots and what not cause of this...

Unless you are from New England you just can't understand what it's like to be a Red Sox fan.

<sigh> exactly right. It's so fitting that the longest 9-inning postseason game ever, as well as the longest actual post-season game ever (FIVE HOURS 49 MINUTES, HELLO??) would be a Yankees Red Sox game. I'm almost rooting for the Sox to lose so I don't have to go through this anymore.... especially if it ends like last year

    Troy,

I was in Boston on a business trip the night (in 1986) they lost game 7 to the Mets. We were sitting in a packed little bar/restaurant off Quincy Market. I've never experienced that kind of noise level - even at a rock concert. When Buckley let the squibbler roll between his legs it was like someone pulled the plug on the jukebox. Stunned silence - not even close. You could have heard a mouse pissing on cotton a mile away.

The only bright side of the trip was meeting Ted Williams at the airport when I left town. He and his son (who was just a young teen at the time) were standing quietly and unnoticed near one of the gate waiting areas. I almost pissed myself! A couple of days before that I'd purchased a BoSox hat and sticker from a couple of school teachers on the street. I dug into my briefcase and found the sticker, went over (shaking) and introduced myself, and asked if he'd sign the sticker. Ted smiled at me and said "sure." I wanted to tell him what an inspiration he'd been to me as a kid (my first glove was a Ted Williams autograph model from Sears) but I was so dumbstruck I just was able to squawk "thanks Mr. Williams." He said "it's Ted and you're welcome." I have the autograph framed on my desk. One of my most prized possessions and a chance meeting I'll never forget.

    Mike

understand that i am not a big baseball fan, but everytime the yanks play the sox, i hear that this is the sox' year, but then, the curse rolls around and it just aint so. the red sox need to hire a shaman or something, or else they will just not get the job done.
what did the red sox do to piss off the Bambino anyway?

It's really justa b ig self-fulfilling prophecy and an excuse for inadequacy, if you ask me. But the official story :

    From http://www.bambinoscurse.com/whatis/ :

In 1918 the Red Sox won their 5th World Series, the most by any club at that time. One of the stars of the Boston championship franchise was a young pitcher by the name of George Herman Ruth, aka The Babe or The Bambino.

In 1920, however, Red Sox owner Harry Frazee needed money to finance his girlfriend's play, so he sold Babe Ruth's contract to Colonel Jacob Ruppert's New York Yankees for $100,000 (plus a loan collateralized by Fenway Park).

Since then, the Yankees, who had never won a World Championship before acquiring Ruth, have gone on to win 26, and are arguably one of the greatest success stories in the history of sport.

Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox have appeared in only four World Series since 1918, losing each one in game seven. Many consider Boston's performance after the departure of Babe Ruth to be attributable to "The Curse of the Bambino."
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
