the silk/polymer domes are going to sound smoother than the current tri-lams. how much of a difference this will make? i don't know. you're best bet, would probably be to get a matching center now. do you think the perfomance of a second center is will add alot to your system?

You will have a much more blended front sound stage if you use the same tweeters. An example of this is a car going through the left than center than right channels. The car will sound one way in your front left speaker than the tone will change slightly when going through the center and then go back to same tone as the left speaker when it is in the front right. What type of fronts are you using now?

Update: I just checked out your system showcase, and why do you want to upgrade your center, the 400 is a wonderful speaker? If anything I would upgrade your front right and left speakers to 1000i's before they discontinue those.

    Just my .02 though.

i think he means running (2) cs400i's up front? i am wondering if this would add a great sonic benifit to the one. any reason for (2) 400's over (1) 1000?

i have 4 fx 500i for my surounds. i was just thinking of some futhure upgrades and the reason y i would go with 2 400i over 1 1000p is i dont have the wireing to power the amp of the 1000.

No offense but good luck getting 2 400i's let alone 1 next year. They are discontinuing the model and probably will only be around for the next 4 months or so. If you really want to upgrade I would suggest doing it soon.

A lot of the articles I have read on "front" center channel speakers suggest that two centers is probably NOT a good idea. Why? Because the two systems produce "comb filter" effects that affect oveall timbre. For similar reasons, I am not a big fan of "traditional" center speakers (typically, a tweeter flanked by two equal mids, or similar), but prefer 3 identical "fronts."
