Something to apply to paper wizzers?

I was looking over my Pioneer full rangers I have, and since I am not going to be covering these drivers in anyway, I am concerned that my family members/friends may get curious and tear/bend/whatever to the wizzer. So I was wondering if there is some type of material/chemical of some sort to apply to the wizzer to 'stiffen' it more without changing the overal tonal quality...

Does anyone have a link or an idea of or if this exist?

Thanks...

If you can't trust the people to not damage the goods, then don't let them anywhere around the things.......

    I know, and i agree...

But it is very hard to control everyone around me, especially when I am not here...

Just worried that my woofers will get destroyed!!!!

Cant wait to get these things built!

And I can't lock my mom out of my room, and in return I cant lock my sister or her friends out of my room...

When my sister brings her friends over or her 'boyfriend' - she dosnt say, Hey, you wanna see my room?

She says, Hey, do you wanna see my brothers room?

    Its actually quite ennerving

People often apply a thin layer of dammar to the cone and whizzer to stiffen them but this will change the overall sound - usually for the better.

People often apply a piece of foam insulation between the whizzer and the cone but this will change the overall sound - usually for the better.

Hmmm, is there ever an instance where applying this liquid has altered the sound for the worse? I dont think I want to take the chance of it sounding worse...

However the foam (would cotton balls work?) can be removed if it sounds worse...

    Hmm, decisions...decisions

Cotton balls would work too. This is called the $.98 and is very reversible. I've seen people do this tweak to very expensive drivers (>$1k/ pr) and they were very happy with the results. The damar (aka dammar) is not reversible. I've never heard of anybody not liking the results but most people will not apply this stuff to more expensive drivers. This stuff is a lacquer and should be thinned and applied gently and evenly, let dry and test results, repeat if necessary.

No problem. I love single driver speakers and anybody willing to give them a shot deserves anything I have to offer. For etter sound you can also epoxy (or even just plumber's putty) the basket to the magnet and/or apply felt to the cone side of the basket. The idea of putting a bead rope caulk down the middle of each basket leg then covering with felt has always seemed to be a good idea to me with rear loaded horns.

Check out that single driver website. There's plenty of info there. They will hopefully change formats soon too. I'm willing to bet that somebody else is using those same drivers in the same cab designs.

Why no grill. I would think that a 1" larger needlepoint frame from a local craft store would make for a great looking grill frame. It wouldn't have to always be in place, but would keep interested fingers away when need be.

No matter what you apply, you will affect the sound quality in some way. Whether it's good or bad, it WILL change.
