No bass from sub

My system is about 4 years old. I have 2 Polk RT1000p front speakers, CS245 center channel, 2 Polk Mseries surround and a Velodyne CT80 powered subwoofer.
I recently bought a new pioneer VSX-D912 and can't seem to get any bass at all. The lowest setting for crossover on the reciever is 100. My 2 fronts have a built in sub.
I am getting really confused with all the connection choices I have. My receiver has a pre-amp outlet to the sub, which I am currently using. Then there is controls on the back of the sub, that I have no idea what they are for. I set my speakers to small and yes to a SW.
If anyone out there can help this noob, I would surely appreciate it.

I'lll do what I can...
First, have you told your AVR that a sub is in play? That is, most contain a question in the set up about the presense of a sub in the system.
Second, with speakers set to small you are sending no bass to your mains to feed your 1000p's subs... Set Mains to Large...
Third, if you are using your sub's LFE line input, at least one of the dial settings should not matter. The dials are likely: the Crossover setting and the phase setting. Turn the crossover to it's maximum value. Start with the phase at "0".
Once everything is working as you want it to you can play with the phase setting to see if it blends better with the other speakers in your system...
You can tune by ear to a certain degree, but investing in a Radio Shack digital SPL meter and a good HT Calibration disk is the way to go...
Good Luck and Welcome to the Club...More later,

I have set the AVR to SW on. One other question. With the RT1000 do I need to hook up rca cables with the "subwoofer line level"?
Thanks

Don't think so... I believe that the speaker wire leads will do... Using speaker runs will make the set up process a tad longer, but the ability to adjust each 1000 individually should yield better overall results.
Do you have the manual? If not, pdf should be in the library here...More later,

I just got the radio shack sound level meter. I will try it soon. I thought regarding speaker size, that the majority opinion is to set all speakers to small. I have the video essentials DVD that I got a wjile ago. Would this be suitable to use to calibrate? Is there something else on the market that is better?

True.. small is preferred, except when it comes to the "p" line-up. Setting them to small is wasting their bass capability, which while not monsterous, is enough to see that it is utilized... It's likely why you bought 'em... right?
Video Essential disk is more than adequate, but it has a flaw... Read about it here..More later,

Ok I tried the sound meter and I am not getting any response at all except for the sub. My receiver volume goes from -100 to 0. When I did the test tones the volume was at -40.
I believe something is wrong if the volume has to be turned up that high. Also I increased the db on the receiver to 10 all the way around except for the sub to see if it made a difference, it didn't.
MY AVR has a test tone setup in it with a mic. Should I use this first, then use the Video Ess?
Thanks for you time. It might be a while till I get this setup working. -
Well at least it seems we fixed your "no bass" problem...
You're welcome...
You actually are calibrating your system to75 dB with the DVE disk, so I'm not surprised to see you in the -40 neighborhood...
How are you wired? That is, are you using your DVD players digital (or optical) out and decoding in the AVR? Or are you using the DVDP's decoding and running analog out to the AVR?
Note: Either way you will want to set the individual ch level adjustments back to "0"... so go ahead and do that...More later,

O Tour I convinced the wife to spend a little more on a receiver. I just purchased a Denon-1905 for 479. I will hook it up sometime tonight. I will let you know how it works out.
