OK, virgin install.

I picked up (after much pondering) the HK AVR 7300 and will be setting that up with my speakers this weekend.

I picked up some 16 gauge acoustic research speaker wire and will be getting some connectors tonight to finish those off (longest run being 30 feet to the surrounds).

And I just wanted to ask if there any newbie mistakes that don't rate too high on the "DUH!" meter I might make?

Just curious.

Wiring speakers out of phase is the most common issue... Not too much else can go wrong...

    1) The biggest mistake usually made, is not sending the wife and kids away on a 1 week vacation. It takes time to figure things out and set them up, and it is much easier without people bugging you.

    2) If the AVR7300 speaker level adjustments are like the AVR630 which I have. Then you have multiple sets of speaker level adjustments based on surround mode (which is based on input). Once you have settled in with the surround modes that you use on each input. When listening to a particular surround mode, go into the settup menus and verify that the speaker levels are set,

    3) The most useless setting in the settup menus. Is going into the Advanced Menu, and setting the display brightness to Half. ;)
