Well, 2 days ago i was reading a thread on how to bi-wire my speakers correctly which slowly turned into a center speaker discussion.......
So today i'm at work, checking the discussion board..... I decide to take a walk outside since the weather was so worm. I just happen to work next to a FUTURE SHOP which JUST HAPPENS to sell Polks................that was my first mistake
The second one was to walk in the speaker room and look for the CS400i..... They had one but it was in bad shape (it seems that people just dont care about store speakers, tweeters & woofers poopped in..etc).
A salesman walks in and asks if he can be of assistance. I start saying that they should lower their price soon since the series is discontinued blablabla...... He didnt know anything about it so he left to speak with his boss. He comes back and says that they were indeed discontinued since yesterday (interesting...)
They were priced at 350 can $ (they also had a pair of RT800i going for 469 $ !!!!!!!!!!!). He also says that they only have one CS400i left........
Then he makes the mistake to say : What would it take for you to leave with it.......

3 hours later, here i am at home listening to my brand new CS400i
which i bought for a little 350 $ (15% taxes included & extended warranty)

AAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhh, my porns sound so much real now as the dialogue is more "exiting"......

I hate you guys

Tell me about it, I never knew how great my **** could be until I picked up one of those snazzy CS400i's. Given your interests, I'm surprised you didn't pick up the pair of 800i's for $469.00. Imagine how great that would sound! 5 channel ****? Hmmmmm......

In late 2000, I picked up a CS400i (yes, the i-series) from Circuit City for $250... only problem with it is a missing peg for the cloth grille and a small scratch on the bottom. Needless to say, I was incredibly pleased with myself for that bargain.

I should upgrade the wiring and crossover in that one, too... hmm... :)

Good choice Presidan, I too just bought the CS400i. I really think it opens up the front sound stage when the **** actors are moving from the couch to the bed. No, but really, it is a great speaker and you got it for a great deal. Enjoy it! :)

Just to know, was your CS400i packed in a normal cardboard box and held in place with cardboard pieces ? Not that styrofoam crap ?
I just want to be sure that my CS400i was indeed new, never opened before. One of the corners was a little "bruised"

Nice purchase. I went from a 245 to a 400 and love it.

Its only downfall is its size...but you take the good with the bad :)

Very True Mark, the center is bigger than my TV. Presidan are you talking to me? Well I am going to answer your question anyways. My CS400i was in its original box (Polk labeling) and was secured by paper holders. It was rapped in a plastic covering. Mine too had a couple of bruises on the box but when I got home, all that was damaged was the top of the grill, which is easily replacable through polk.com for about $15. I don't even think I am going to replace it because it's so minor. So far I have listened to it at near reference levels and my speaker has performed increbibly well. Mark I also had the 245, and after updgrading to the 400, I would never go back. It is truly one of the best purchases I have ever made.

My 400i was also one of my best purchases. Still enjoy my 245 with my 32" Sony in my bedroom setup.

Just bought a Toshiba 50HX81 16x9 Rear Projection. Believe it or not...the 400i fits right on top with no problems. Its huge...but the sound is awesome.

When I got my CS 400i it was wrapped up in the plastic bag and the two white packings were placed on the sides. My speaker was in the perfect condition brand new like a virgin! the only flaw was one of the spikes of the grill was broken and missing. I send an email to Polk Audio, they've send me the new one and its on its way!

I've a 27" Sony Trinitron and this beast is on top, can you believe it! I put wood pieces on top in 'T' shaped and they are
supported by hammered nails in the wall.

Thats what i found weird. Mine was also packed in a plastic bag but it was held in place with two CARDBOARD thingies......

I have a feeling that someone has used this speaker before. But hey, it seems to play ral good and it is discontinued so i guess it's all good

    Don't worry Pres!

Did you inspect the speaker carefully? If everything is fine then don't be worried because you made the right choice to buy this incredible speaker and it is worth every single penny. I should say it is a steal to buy this speaker at any price. CS 400i is discontinued and you're very lucky to buy it.

Now you've a timbre matched HT system. All trilaminate tweeters!
    Like I do!

Enjoy it and use them as much as you can they need really good breaking period after 50-60hrs of playback they will sound even better.

Well, since I was reading this post I just had to go and find out if **** does indeed some better on the 400i. :)

I went to the Future Shop near me looking to get the 400i since I saw that it was marked down to $399 CDN from over $550. I was talking with the guy and I asked about the 600i and how much they were going for. He said that they were selling them for $499. I thought to myself, why not, what's the worst she could do? So I said sure to buddy but I told him that I wanted a sealed package. He went to look and came back and said that they only had the 400i in a sealed package. I kinda grunted and was ready to just take the 400i when he said, "How about I give you a sealed 800i instead for the same price?" I did a double take and said suuuuuuuuuure.

Got everything all hooked up now and I must say, things definitely sound sweet! These speakers combined with the PSW450 I recently got and my house is shaking! Tell me something, is your living room supposed to shake while the Pod Race scene is going on? <lol>

Now I just need to save up some money and replace my rear surrounds with fx500i or something and then I'm golden. I'd say I did ok tonight considering that I got the 400i + the 800i for just over $1000 CDN taxes in.

P.S. I'll find out tonight if the **** does indeed sound better. ;)

Just make sure that the title doesn't read 'Grandma Does Dallas'.

In my wilder days while living in Chicago, I once awoke at the insistence of my guitar playing roommate, who'd just stumbled in the door at roughly 5:00a.m., to hear him slur, "hey, hey ... youaahh ... gotta' see this ****.... " I had the worst possible effin' headache and wanted nothing more than to be left alone to suffer through my own boozely misadventures, but was too confused and tired to fight him off. So I made the mistake of looking up; what I saw will haunt me for the remainder of my days: There was an elderly woman shaking her dentures free of their moorings and endeavoring the process of gumming some guy in his late teens, while cooing, "Sonny, you've got a nice c*** on ya'.... ". Needless to say, two hours later we'd slammed another twelve pack and were about the business of making plans to get some additional flicks.

Let that be a lesson to you.
