I was looking around today at a local thrift shop... and came upon a Sony ES tuner. ST S555-ES is the model number.

It has some funky out put connector that looked a lot like a S-video type connector. I assume it's a dedicated Sony thingy... able to only be hooked up to other Sony equipement. It was a in fairly decent shape.. i can't us it.. and the guy didn't know if it worked our not.

Anyone know about this tuner or type of connector?

I found out about the connector.. it's a DIN jobber. weird huh?

here is a pic I found on the internet of the tuner. and some additional info on it.

"This was the top line tuner in Sony’s ES line when ES really meant something.

This 5 gang tuner has been something of a sleeper because in its original configuration, it came with a proprietary DIN connector and an impedance matching circuit instead of RCA outputs. As a result few people had ever really listened to it."

I sold one to Mark a while back, I think he may have passed it on to another member.

    Great tuna.

can it be modded and have RCA outs put into it? worth the cost of it? or do they sell a DIN to RCA adaptor?

    Anything can be modded.

I haven't seen a replcaement, but then again, I haven't looked specifically for it.

Try partsexpress or you local electronics parts house.

    Oh, wait.

    Which model did you have?

I've had so many sony tunas through here, I cant remember. Now that I think about it, yours was RCA, the din/rca cable version I sold on the bay.

    Cheers,
