Hi Sid,
I was running 5 M200's and then got a great deal on a 2 channel Krell and matching preamp. I highly recommend the Outlaws. They sound really good for thier price + a 5 year warranty.
To directly compare the Outlaw to the Krell is not a fair comparison considering the Outlaw were $550/pair vs. the Krell at $3000. I would say that the Outlaws will give you about 85-90% of the performance of my Krell.
I find that the Krell really made the sound more robust. Bottom end is deeper and more controlled. Many have told me that Krell usually underrates their amps as far as power output. Power and control is Krells' usual selling point.
The Outlaws were a little more laid back, nice soundstage and depth. Dollar wise, the clear deal. I would not have bought my Krell's unless I fell into the deal I did. For movie applications, Outlaw is the best deal out there. For critical listening, still very good, but there are better. But you would need to spend 3-4 times the price of the Outlaws new, to get that better sound.
I guess it is all relative. Funny thing is, the guy I bought my Krell pair from was getting out of 2 channel listening and bought a Yamaha Z series flagship receiver for $4500. That is nuts in my opinion.
I still use one Outlaw M200 for my center and the 950 pre. Very pleased so far.
Dr. Spec has 3 of my M200's, and he seems to enjoy them also.
Regards,
Jeremy -
Thanks!
I think I am going to give these a try when/if I can...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I use a pair of Outlaw monoblocks on my 2-channel system. As Venom indicated, they are great amps. Pancake thin, never get hot, auto on, no frills, and sound great. Heavy little ****, too. I highly recommend them, too.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

Roots in SAE and GAS, if the price is right, I wouldn't hesitate to buy Outlaw amps.

Make sure you add B&K to your list. Most RF-XX owners from wat I've seen around the net say B&K match best with them. I can say that NAD C270 also works extremely well with my RF's.

thanks for the suggestions, Maurice; I'll be sure to check 'em out. However, I've convinced myself that the only reason I've been looking at separates is because I've gotten caught up in all the opinions and purchases of fellow polkies while I personally can find no fault in my current rig. I know it's definitley nothin' to brag about in the presence of audiophiles, but it is certainly adequate for the minimal amount and type of listenin' I do. So, I'll probably waste some time lookin' at separates, but just to be lookin'. I'm gonna try to remain satisfied with what I've got.George Grand wrote: »

I just hooked up three Outlaw mono blocks (new) to my 2 LSi15s and LSic and after one day happy I did it after 10 months of trying to make the speakers play with and HK receiver at 80WPC at 8 ohms.

I have Venom's other M200 and absolutely love it. There isn't even a comparison of what my denon was putting out compared to the Outlaw.
I highly reccommend these amps and I will be looking to purchase 2 more myself in the future. -
I bought a pair of M200's on audiogon for 375.00 shipped. These things are GREAT for the money. Big, clean power.Michael
