Can anyone give me any good suggestions for some accoustical guitar artists? I enjoy the sound of the instrument, but am ignorant as what/who is good.
Thanks for the help.

    Greetings!

    Just a few to start:

    Al Di Meola
    Paco De Lucia
    John McLaughlin

And a "Must Have" album for acoustic- "Friday Night in San Francisco" featuring all three of these excellent musicians.
This album is AMAZING! I cannot recommend this any more highly.
IMHO-anyone who is slightly interested in acoustic guitar MUST
    own this.

    CHEERS! jefff

Thanks for the recommendations. I will take a look at some of these over the next few months. What do I need to look for out of these recordings?
I will be listening to them on LSi7's. Will this help or hurt my listening experience with these artists?

Ditto on Paco de Lucia. For classical guitar, I'd recommend Elliot Fisk, John Williams, and Andres Segovia.

Steve Hackett has done some pretty good solo work too in the last few years.

The 7's are great for this type of music, they are just missing a little in the guitar "thump" region (Where the musician uses the body of the guitar as a drum).
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. Don't know if you're a Led Zeppelin fan, but their first and third albums have quite a bit of acousitc guitar-work. Not sure if you're looking for strictly solo instrumental albums, but again, Zeppelin has some good stuff peppered thruout their albums, but 1&3 seem to have the most to me.

Here's a link to Amazon, where you can listen to some samples. Just click on the album, then more details, and there should be a playlist.

Check out some of Stanley Jordan's work. His earlier work is quite remarkable. There is a disclaimer on his 1st album which states that there were no overdubs on the recording. It was just him and a microphone.

I really enjoy Dave Alvin--Blackjack David a SACD it is a Hybrid disc so you do not have to have a SACD to listen to it. He is a Folk singer/guitar picker, a sort of male Joan Baez, I find his songs amusing, he sings about life and times in the USA the grit of things so to speak, his guitar picking is outstanding.

Justin King - Way on the wild side of the instument, but I got to give him credit for the creativity and blazing his own path of how to differentiate himself from others.

He wowed crowds last year as the warmup for Diana Krall on her tour.

    Pretty amazing!

I absolutely LOVE listening to my Eric Clapton CD - Unplugged. I imagine most of his stuff would be pretty good. Also, I *believe* James Taylor has some guitar in some of his music.

I'm gonna have to check out some of the artists suggested here.

I've given several of these a listen on Amazon over the last few days. Some of them I'll probably buy the CD's unless download quality gets better. I don't mind downloads for popular tunes, but I want a lot of detail and clarity in this type of music.

Charo is great on the acoustic guitar....no kidding.

But I am thinking of another female guitarist....Liona Boyd. While her music is mostly classical, she did release an album called "Persona" that also featured Eric Clapton, David Gilmour (of Pink Floyd), Yo-Yo Ma, and the late Michael Kamen.

I picked up Andres Segovia: The Baroque Guitar, at a used cd place last week. I like it very much. It is an older cd, but the digital remaster sounds very good on my LSi7's. I'll get a few of these artists at a time to develop my accoustical guitar appreciation over a longer period. Hope the list started here has helped others also.

Here is a bump for Leo Kotke. He is a great musician and a great person. I worked it out with him to get up on stage and propose to my wife during one of his shows. One of his techs dubbed the show and gave me the bootleg tape afterwards. She said yes, btw.

Also be sure to check out:
-Mike Hedges (died to soon!) "Live on the Double Planet" this will blow you mind ,
    -William Ackerman, anything by him
-Ani Difranco's live album "Living in Trip" is great accoustic urban folk stuff.
    -Ricardo Cobo "Guitar Lullaby",
    -Paco De Lucia "Cositas Buenas".
-Marc Antoine "Urban Gypsy" - not pure accoustic, and a bit new age, but good stuff.
-Bruce Springsteen "Nebraska" One man album, he recorded it at home on a 4-track. Only vocals, guitar and harmonica.
    -Bruce Cockburn "Live"
-Ben Harper "Fight for your Mind"

As far as great LSi7 music, you might also check out Jeff Buckley's studio album, Grace, is pretty laid back, though not acoustic guitar, it really pulls you in. Also, look into Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan (died right on time), the boy could sing and has about 900 albums to prove it!

Another good one, both in terms of recording and program, is anything from the Tone Poems series on Acoustic Disc. Each of the series highlights a different acoustical instrument played by world class players.

Ditto on Stanley Jordan, Kotke, and Govi. Otmar Leibert flamenco music. Any album. The master of flamenco. Stanley plays electric but it sounds like acoustic. I have seen him live several times but I don't recall an acoustic, but maybe I'm mistaken. In any event, his style is super silky smooth and in the realm. Any work featuring Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac on acoustic. Awesome.
