Good job as usual Doc. Impressive little sub too. Are you going to be doing more reviews for Hi Fi? And how come SVS hasn't hired you yet?:DGraham

Looks SOLID!
Awesome review Doc!
For 400 dollars, that subwoofer looks amazing, and for 400 dollars that subwoofer driver is...is...wow...
Very nice...very nice indeed...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Very nice! Due to the CC Polk sell-off I accidently (that's the story I gave the significant other and I'm sticking to it!) acquired a second HT setup that will go in the rec room of the new place. For slightly less than $600 I was able to get RTi6's, RTi4's, a CSi5, and a CSi3 that will be powered by a spare Yammie HTR-5660 that I had. I was searching for a small sub to go with it and had just about settled on the HSU STF-2, but this appears to be the better choice! I'm going to get one on order as it looks like they will be raising the price. As soon as I get moved and can have a down firing sub in my HT room, my PSW505 and PSW303 are going down the road and I plan to get an SVS 20-39 PC+ for the main HT system.DKG999
HT System: LSi9, LSiCx2, LSiFX, LSi7, SVS 20-39 PC+, B&K 507.s2 AVR, B&K Ref 125.2, Tripplite LCR-2400, Cambridge 650BD, Signal Cable PC/SC, BJC IC, Samsung 55" LED
Music System: Magnepan 1.6QR, SVS SB12+, ARC pre, Parasound HCA1500 vertically bi-amped, Jolida CDP, Pro-Ject RM5.1SE TT, Pro-Ject TubeBox SE phono pre, SBT, PS Audio DLIII DAC -
Poor Ed, he is now on NightRain's bash list at AVS....

It seems to me that someone is always being bashed there. Some people dont think before they type.
As for Ed being biased, that is not even an issue. I cannot think of someone whose opinion I trust more regarding all things low frequency.Graham -
Doc --
How does the PB10 compare to the PB1? Based on the specs alone and your review, it seems that folks should dump their PB1 and sign on for the PB10.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I just took a look at the thread over at AVS. Obviously Nightrain is a few bricks shy of a full pallet. Another Horses **** over there is some yahoo that goes by the name of "The Bland."
Too bad they didn't take the time to do the research and really read the review before opening their pie-holes. Too bad they don't know Doc the way we do.
Truth be told, Doc is really big on SVS and thats great. You won't find to many other people that stand up for a product they believe in and not ask for anything in return for it. Even the SDA wack jobs around here (myself included:D ) don't have as much knowledge about their favorite speaker as Doc has about his SVS sub(s). (Okay, Darqueknight gets a pass) I'm not an SVS fan, and I get a little bored with the SVS this, and SVS that...But the man wrote a great review and showed be applauded for it.
Nice reveiw Doc, now if I could just get you to see the error of your ways and pick up a Sunfire Truesub EQ.;) -
Some people wouldn't know a real review from a joke written on a toilet paper roll.....F'Em Doc, great review.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The mod just closed down that thread over in AVS. It's amazing the amount of mudslinging that goes on over there.

Just checking in here - worked all day yesterday (on a holiday no less).
Many thanks for the props. It's a cool subwoofer and the discussion thread at HTF has all the details.
I'm grateful Secrets gave me the chance to do a review there, and in case you think I'm stuck in SVS, think Acoustic Visions and Velo next. That's the only teasers you will get. :-)
I do it for fun.......a professional reviewer I'm not. I think I do a decent job, but I'm not the next coming of Julian Hirsch (RIP) or anything.
Any detractors at AVS can say whatever they want - I don't care. I don't make a living at this, and like I said - it's all for fun.
Peace Out.

Heck yeah, that's why I'm up to maybe a whopping 30 posts over there after 18 months.
Personally, I like the reviews that Craig and Ed do, and everyone on this board much more than the stereophile or other audiophile ones. At least they are honest and can make a comparison between brand "A" and "B". Especially since their motivations and "Silver Ears" are a lot closer to mine than some self described and paid expert with "Golden Ears" :rolleyes:There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Doc,
Glad you're taking that thread at face value... as if "professional reviewers" can not be swayed by the size of the Manf's ad budget... effin' turnip truck material that is...
Wish you could have made Poktoberfest. It would have been great to see you again. Maybe the next one up the east coast at a location TBD will be within reach...
Anyone who does not believe our beloved Doc would not condem a less than acceptable SVS effort, doesn't know him...
More later,
Tour...

How does the PB10 compare to the PB1?
Here's what the folks at SVS had to say:
"The PB12-ISD (new name for the PB1-ISD, same sub) is a more powerful unit by a noticeable amount. The PB10-ISD has a little bit lower frequency extension but is not capable of the same volume levels that the PB12-ISD is capable of."HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub
"God grooves with tubes." -
Well said tour - bravo. And a East Coast GTG is a great idea......
The PB10-ISD and the PB12-ISD will be very close in the 20-22 Hz region. At 25 Hz, the PB12-ISD will start to assert itself, with a 40% larger driver. Based on my tests of both, a 3 dB advantage above 25 Hz is a safe bet. That would be quite noticeable in terms of "felt impact"."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

You do a great job Doc and I'm sad that some ego maniacs hide their own inadequacies by bashing a true hobbyist. Just goes to show there are those that know and those that BLOW!

Doc,
One decent point in that "other" forum was the possibility of twin 10's (co-located) stealing Ultra sales...

Not gonna happen. Four PB10-ISDs for $1600 all piled in a corner would give a PB12-Ultra/2 a good run for the money, though.
Remember, the strength of the PB10-ISD is how closely the distortion limited output and the dynamic limits approach unity. In that respect it is just remarkable, and represents SVS' best effort to date.
BTW, last night we watched The Day After Tomorrow with the PB12-Ultra/2. Trust me, the king is still very much alive."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

i bought twins and if i recall $1900 was the total. I believe my amp caused the premature death of 2 subs. Fortunatly, i purchased svs and they replaced my purchase within 2 days... a better amp than sampson needs evaluated and the SVS product line should be reviewed in all the so-called important magazines.
