DLP Progressive scan

I've been trying to watch my favorite DVDs in progressive scan (480P) on my Samsung HLN series DLP TV without much luck. The picture will look much darker when compared to interlaced mode. This same can be observed on two different DVD players. I first fried it on a Panasonic F85, then a Harmon kardon DVD22. Results are identical. Samsung customer support was usless. Wonder if anyone else experience the same? Any suggestions on what the issue may be? Thanks.
Tommy

Does you DVD player have a setting for black level? Some do and some don't.Best Regards, Cliff

Color and black levels are actually different for component output. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the problem you are running into. You'll need to calibrate the display for 480p (setting brightness, contrast, tint, etc). Most "good" displays will save different settings for different inputs. You might have to calibrate it for each input. That's what I had to do with mine. Using Avia, and all of the video outputs from my player (component, s-video, and composite), it was easy.Go BIG or go home!

sowen010599, thanks for your suggestion. I'll get this calibrated.
Is Avia easy to follow? Thanks again.Tommy -
Yeah, it's really good and easy to follow. Buy it new though. People have a bad way of loosing the filters that are included. Use it for audio calibration too. Get an SPL meter from Radio Shack if you haven't already. Avia can make a huge difference if you use it correctly.Go BIG or go home!

I stumbled across "Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-Up" while shopping for Avia. How's this compare to Avia? Appreciate your input.Tommy

tkc9789,
The S&V disk and the Avia disk are both made by Ovation. I've been using the S&V version for about 3 years and am very pleased with results I've able to achieve on my PJ and on my previous tv (RPTV).
