An incredibly tough week for me.

A week ago Sunday my wife found out her grandmother died. Her grandfather died about 3 months ago, and we think she died of a broken heart. It was very unexpected.

On Monday as I was starting to search for plane tickets for my wifes family I noticed on my starting web page that a co-worker of mine, and good friend, lost her son in Iraq while serving for the Army. http://www.dailystar.com/dailystar/dailystar/41105.php

Karen and I talked in lengths about her son going to Iraq. She got to spend 10 days with him before he deployed over there. And she told me once that, right after he left, that she had a terrible feeling in her heart that she would never see Robbie again. At the time it shocked me that she would say that, but I listened and encouraged her the best I could. But maybe it was mother's intuition or something.

So today (Sunday) my father and I went golfing early in the morning. Had a 7:30 tee time, and really enjoyed the day with my best friend. My dad dropped me off and as soon as I walked in the door I knew something was wrong. My wife asked me to sit down as she told me the unthinkable. She told me that a lot of people have been trying to get a hold of me, and that late last night Karen had pased away from a massive heart attack. Needless to say I was speechless, and heart broken. This woman had a heart of gold and did so much for her family, co-workers and community. It is such a tragic loss that I cannot comprehend.

She leaves a daughter Amy, husband Dennis, and lovely 3 year old granddaughter Ivy. A few beers will be toasted in her memory as well as her son's tonight.

    Thoughts and prayers Sean.

I'll raise the next glass to a brave soldier's service, and unselfishness, and the mother that obviously instilled good values in him.

    Cheers,
    Russ

My condolences to both you and your family and Karen's. I know how hard it is when you lose a good friend and loved one suddenly. What I cannot comprehend (and hope I will never have to) is the sense of loss Karen's family must feel. In the span of a week to tragically lose a son/wife, brother/mother, uncle/grandmother must be very hard. To barely begin grieving the loss of one before another is lost is sure to put a huge strain on that family. They need our prayers. I'm sure this goes without saying...but your helping that family in any way will not only honor your friend but will help you get through this tough time. My prayers will be with you, your wife and the family of your friend.

Thank you guys for the heart felt condolences. (Thanks for the PM I-Sig)

My wife has handled her grief for her grandmother like any other loving granddaughter would. She has been a real trooper in helping me deal with mine. What a fine woman she is.

Yesterday was Karen's and Robbie's wake. What a tear soaked affair. Then on top of it I had to go straight to work. It is a very tough night (I am at work right now.)

One quick story...When I last talked to Karen (last thursday) on the phone I had asked if I could do any thing for her, she had said no, then as we were saying our goodbye's she remembered how I was talking about a great putter (for golf) I had found on Ebay. Since her husband loved the game also she asked if I would try to find one for him on ebay too for his birthday. I of coarse said I would. She said with all the preperation's of robbie's funeral she was afraid of forgetting Dennis' b-day.

Yesterday the putter came in the mail. What a shock it was for me. I had forgotten that I had found one so fast, and was able to get it for a reasonable price. So I am happy that she will be able to give Dennis a birthday present (A Taylor Made by the way), I just wish she was able to be here.:(

Thanks again guys.... here is the story about her.
