Vinal to CD

I have been playing around with this idea for some time now. As most of you who have experience in this type of thing the amount of work to do it right almost makes it not worth it. I always like to take the easy way out so what do you think of this type software?
http://entertainen.terratec.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=198&page=1
Also, with the new type of digital TT's out there for DJ use, "Denon 151 for example", do you think pcm out to a pc card would be better than analog then mix down?
I'm definetly upside down on this topic and any or all opinions will be appreciated.

Either way you are going thru an A to D conversion, so in my mind the question is what are the best components to do the job?
I'd be skeptical of the DJ TT quality available starting with the TT components and design (motor isolation, tone arm, etc.) , and then the quality of their built in ADC... Also, I'd think they have to include a phono pre, at least for RIAA eq, if not boosting the signal strength, and that's another component to question.
Bottom line... can't see a price competitive Digital TT being performance competitive.
Then again, I could be nearsighted...More later,

You need a lot of good expensive TT gear to get the information off the disc then you need a lot more good expensive digital equipment to store it properly. Not for the weak of wallet.

As for recording vinyl on a PC.
That teratec is just a phono pre-amplifier, it uses your soundcard in your computer to do the A to D conversion. If you already have a phono pre-amp or your phono hooked into a reciever that puts the up level output to a line level or pre-amp out. Just connect that to your sound card, and use the sound recorder on your system, you will get the same results.
For professional results, you are going to want to sample at least 4 times your target final output, then filter and downconvert. This means for CD quality, you should have at least a 192 A to D converter, software to digitally filter the sample and then down convert to a 44.1 khz 16 bit pcm file. If you are going through all that trouble, you might just as well get something that nets you a 96khz/24bit output in either Dolby Digital, DTS, or DVD Audio. The sound quality is better than CD.Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70 -

Good stuff above on the labors of LP transfers to CD.Originally posted by brettw22
... the nature of a DJ TT design would be to have a motor that's going to withstand a club environment. That includes a LOT of stomping, jumping, banging that a typical home TT wouldn't probably handle, no?
Take motor isolation for example... My old Dual 1229's motor developed a bearing problem. It was inaudible while rockin', but throw a genre on with some dynamic range, and in the softer stuff you could hear it in the background.
No doubt in my mind that the strength of the signal coming from the cartridge in a typical club setting will mask a lot of flaws.More later,

i used roxio's soundstream thingy to record an LP to a wav file and then burn it to a CD, roxio even splits the tracks up for you. worked fine. just make sure your record doesnt skip lol.
just hooked the TT to the receiver, went record out to the mic in on the back of the sound card using a rat shack rca to mini converter and hit record. -
It is best to use the "line in" on your sound card. It is usually a stereo mini-jack (adapter required), and most sound cards will do stereo 44khz files.Win7 Media Center -> Onkyo TXSR702 -> Polk Rti70

You said it brother, and it all started with hooked on phonicsCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
it didnt work with the line in, so i used the mic in and it worked...i don't know what the difference is or why it worked that way but things worked and thats what's important

Who me? No link and I'm too drunk to create one. It's a Phillips little 2 drawer jobby that my daughter bought us 2 years ago at Best Buy. Not bad for a 2 year old eh. She's 4 now and I can't wait for X-mas. It has analog inputs and can be hooked up to the tape monitor loop. I even have to set the levels like recording to a cassette.
I used to record vinyl to VHS. Then I started recording these VHS tapes to CDR (music). Now I just listen to the vinyl.Make it Funky! -

I don't know anything about turn tables, but Dad does have one and a bunch of records. His is a Yamaha Natural Sound Stereo Turntable TT-300U. Y'all know anything about it?
Anyhoo, he says he'd really like to have some of his records on CD, so I guess I'm lookin' into how to do exactly what HBomb was wantin' to do.
Airplay355,
could you tell me more about that roxio software you used? It sounds to me like that was a pretty simple process for you; that's what I want!

roxio easy cd creator 5 platinum...it was $99 before a $50 rebate from best buy. you can burn any type of cd you want, including dvd. it also comes with neat tools like pop removal to help your busted up records sound alittle better. i'd recomend it. theres a newer version out so i imagine that one is even better.
all i did was take my old aiwa receiver and hook it up by the computer. i hooked up the turntable right on top of the receiver. i used a regular rca cable from the TT to the receiver. then i used a ratshcak rca to mini plug cable to the back of the comp. its very easy. the only sucky thing is all the recording is real time, so it takes a long time to do alot of albums...theres really no way of gettin around that though. -
Thanks. I'll look into that software; might be worth $40 if they're still offerin' a rebate.George Grand wrote: »

I'm using the latest Roxio, it's Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. I use it for backing up CDs and non-protected DVDs. But still use Nero for some game CDs that Roxio refuses to copy. I also use EAC for audio CDs on black CDRs.

Nero, Nero, Nero. Get Nero. Roxio, *gag cough cough choke*
Have a look at the Audigy 2 ZS. 108db SNR on all channels, 24bit/192khz, supports DVD-Audio, dah dah blah blah blah... see for yourself http://www.soundblaster.com/products/Audigy2ZS_platinum_pro/
Just bought a few of those ZS's $89 each, good cards!
The M-Audio Audiophile 2496 is good too. It's highly regarded in the computer world. It's only a few bucks more than the ZS, and at $129 retail, it's about the cheapest professional level card you can get. One thing I really like about it too is (get ready for this...)it has REAL RCA JACKS ***OMG!!!***    It comes with a slew of software that should do whatever you need it to. http://209.132.209.147/products/en_us/Audiophile2496-focus.html
