27" Sony Wega (non HD) is not what I'd hoped

Hi peeps ,

I just purchased a 27" Sony Wega (KV-27FS120) to replace my 4 yr old 20" Panasonic TAU in my bedroom HT . This is my first Sony ever , so I had high hopes for it but at this moment Iam not to sure if its going to be a keeper .
All my other tv's in house are Panasonic TAU's , with the most recent one being a 32" ( CT27SL14 /non HD ) in the den purchased about 6 months ago . So far all the TAU's win out over the Wega in CONSTANT clarity , sharpness and color .
For comparison purposes Iam doing the 27" Wega against the 32" TAU ; both with DirecTV (same type boxes , Monster3 component cable , with both being connected via "component" on DTV box end and tv end ) .
To make a long story short , no matter what I try on the Sony Wega the picture never reaches the clarity of the Panasonic TAU .With the Sony it’s a constant battle changing settings back and forth and never reaches any kind of uniformity . With the Panasonic, I found a good setting to my liking and never need to change those settings no matter what Iam watching . Every now and then the Wega almost looks as good as the TAU , but never seems to stay that way for long .
Bottom line here :

Panasonic TAU
1) picture looks fantastic , very crisp , super clear and sharp ALL the time (almost dvd quality) and never varies from that clarity and beauty . Colors stay constant .
Sony Wega
2) picture slightly fuzzy , with details not as pronounced , color depth changes and needs constant adjustment .

Basically the Sony Wega looks good till I go compare the same picture (scene) or program to the Pansonic TAU . Then there is no comparison … the Panasonic wins every time .

Iam I missing something here or are lower-end Sony Wega’s inherent with these flaws . I have another 3 weeks to evaluate the Sony before my 30 days are up .

Any comments here are very appreciated .

TIA ;)

I don't have an answer for you on the inherant Wega question you asked, but ultimately you've already found that it's bad to start with...........Audio is different in that a speaker can go through break-in and sound better...........video is reverse from that.............there is no "getting better"

Dude, if you don't like it, don't keep it. It's not up to us. You have to watch it and use it so if it's painful for you to look at, you're just gonna be miserable with it.

Have you looked at the Sharp offerings? Of course you already know what Panasonic offers too. There are some nice units from Samsung too.

Hi Jstas , yes I understand that in the end "my" eyes are the deciding factor here , but I was also curious if Sony's are more hype than not . Meaning ... Ive read alot of good reviews about Sonys for the most part and tried to do my homework on this as best as possible before my purchase . All-be-it all the local stores around here BB, CC , etc do not have the best quality going on with their display models so it was almost impossible to make a viewing decision before hand .
Iam more interested if the current Wega in my possession is in need of a professional adjustment (inside tv) , replacement (flawed unit) , etc ; or are the lower end Sonys all reflect the same characteristics that Iam encountering . Hence , then I will look elsewhere in brand name for my 27" .
I did look at all the other major brands to the best of my local stores abilities , but again their displays were not really set up correctly (very well visually) for an honest side-by-side comparison .
Looks like the search continues , or I'll just have to become a Panasonic TAU fanboy ... lol .

Thanks for your comments thus far ..... anymore out there ? please ...
    Thanks again
    ;)

Take it back and get one of the Sony "FV" series. They are much better than the "FS" series. From my experience the "FV" had a better picture than anything from the other companies.

    Agreed.

I have to say it's weird you say that about the Panasonics. We have them at my work and I am not a fan of them. I think they're washed out, and down right unattractive (picture quality). The only panasonic I like is the HL14 series (HD). Those do look good for the money.

Sony's have never done it for me... and they have one of the worst repair records.

After my beloved Proton died a couple years ago, I bought Toshiba and just love it.
