I’m the original owner of RTA15tl speakers. It gave me over 10 years of pure listening pleasure. Unfortunately, last week, one of my tweeter went out. I have the following questions:

1.Is it common for tweeter degrade over time?

2.When replacing the tweeter, do I need to change both or just the one that went out?

3.In regards to upgrade, is it prudent to use a different tweeter than the original? If so, any recommend model. I believe the original model came with SL3000.

Any reply will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ho

Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me will reply, but I'm going to say that it would be a little unusual for the tweeter to just "go out". I don't think 10 years is long enough for serious degradation of a tweeter. Were you listening at high volume when it quit? I'm thinking it might be that a wire came loose. Of course you could find out (if you haven't already) by pulling the tweeter and hooking it up directly.

If you have to replace it, as long as the same tweeter is still available (which it looks like it is), I don't think you'd HAVE to replace both. I might anyway if the price isn't too high, just to ensure a better match.

As for changing to a different tweeter, you'd probably need to ask Polk if a different one would work with crossover, etc. Best bet would be to stick with the original, IMO.
