Well, I've been puffin the magic dragon for the past 5 years. Been a daily thing for the past year or so. Before that it was daily only during the summer. Things in my life have been changing for the better and I thought what the hell! I'm quitting. Had my last puff on Sun evening and I've been sober for 3 days. Quit cold turkey and I'm feelin good. The first night was damn hard. I was shaking and sweating but after that, everything's cool.

I'm sure many of the older members here had some fun back the the days. Just wondering, what made you stop and how difficult was it for you?

When I'm ready, the cigarettes will go next.

Sober Maurice:cool:

A Blue moon thing for me now, I can't and don't want the lifestyle - but still like to partake on a rare occasion.

Ain't peer pressure a ****? Just wait till you get your GT line stage.

    Cheers,

I thought about doin it once in a while but I'm afraid it would become a daily thing again. I'll have to wait and see.

However, I do miss listening to some tunes while stoned. I'm getting used to it now though. I just dim the lights, close my eyes and not think about it.

No peer pressure here. My frieds are actually being very supportive except one. Don't care what he thinks though. He asked me to toke up with him last night but I refused.

Great! So did your techie tell you what the problem was on the GT?

Congrats on the desire to quit. Without that, it's hopeless.

I'm one of those anomaly's that hasn't ever taken a sip of alcohol, smoked a cigarette, or done any drugs in my life......never did pick up the urge to try any of them.....

It took my daughter saying "Daddy I dont want you to die I want you to stop smoking". She was four and that was seventeen years ago.
That was the cigarette habit, I never chased the dragon.

Congrats, man. I'm sure it's hard. I wouldn't know, though. Only thing I've ever done was alcohol. Tried it twice when I was 17, threw up both times. I didn't get anything out of it. I've never smoked, or done any kind of drug. I just never saw the point. I am addicted to caffeine, though. Does that make me a junkie...?

God do I ever miss it. I had tapered off over the years but my work started random checking so I quit in total. I have NEVER missed work because of or been at work stoned and feel kinda shafted. My weekends are mine and if I choose to enjoy them one way or another it is my business.

Am I the only one suprised by the number of people here that do or have done it multiple times (even now) here?

It's not a judgement. I smoked it 2 times when I was 18 and it just made me laugh for 15 minutes straight, hungry, and tired.

Thanks for being so supportive guys. It's much easier than I thought. I still get the cravings once in a while but it's nothing much. It was only difficult for the first few nights. I don't even think about it anymore.

There's a few things that I should clear up. MJ is NOT a gateway drug like a lot of people say. It's also not very addictive. I was able to quit cold turkey after 5 years of puffin. Also, when you find something very important worth quitting for, it's a breeze.

Like gatemplin I need to tell my younger 40 year old brother what you did.......my brother & wife smoke cigarettes & that funny stuff every day, all day long and she says: well my grandmother smoked and drank whiskey until she died at the good age of 90+.
I say : see you on oxygen in a few years if not I'll visit you in the hospital with lung problems..............I don't really tell them that but it is what I think.

Glad you quit dude.........I bet now I couldn't smell your smoke walking past you from 5 feet away now.

Back in the early eighties on the weekends partying I would smoke almost anything that burned......glad I gave it up.

    PnP,
Sorry to hear about that. I know for a fact that it's very hard for some people to quit. I did it to enjoy my tunes and video games late at night and sometimes during the day when the parents are out. I didn't do it in school or at work....well just a few times. Some people do it when they wake up, at work, after work, etc and it's much harder for them to quit because they feel like they can't function without weed(some of my friends are like that).

Maybe you can tell them to go on a week long vacation where they can stay sober. I'm sure the cravings won't be too bad when they return.

You're very worried about them and want them to stop. Think of reasons for them to stop and tell them. Tell them how you feel. Make sure you don't push too hard because they might get pissed off at you. I remember how I used to get angry at people who told me to stop.

Think of some really good resons for them to quit. I tell ya, if I didn't meet that special someone, I'd be stoned out of my mind right now.

I hope everything turns out ok. Good luck.

**** dude, I used to sniff rush (while on acid and a fatty) at the midnight showing of Heavy Metal and The Wall. Look at me now.

Wait no. "Look away, I'm hideous", in my best Kramer voice.

I've quit all that stuff I used to do in my teens. Now I just drink copious amounts of alcohol. Did you know that you can wring the acohol out of sterno if you put it in a sock?

    Congrats man. :)

It is fairly easy to quit as long as you want to quit. (At least I've found it so anyway.) Do yourself a favor and don't keep any on hand. It'll lead you right back to where you were.

I imagine the cigarettes will be much harder to quit.

How do like being around your buddies when they smoke?

    Gidrah,
Damn dude, I'm surprised you're still alive;). It's great that you quit at an early age. I'm sure it gets harder when you're older.

Not really a fan of alcohol here but I do enjoy a beer once in a while. Can't take hard liquor, I can't stand the smell or taste.

    Derick,
Thanks man. I finished my stash and told myself 'that's it!'. I can get it pretty much anytime but I just don't think about it anymore. One of my friends offered to burn a doobie with me a few days after I quit but I refused. They're actually surprised how easily I'm going through this.

Haven't been with any friends while they're toking up since I stopped but I know I won't take a puff if they did it in front of me.

Yeah, the cigs will be a lot harder. It's the first thing I crave for when I wake up. Nothing beats a cup of black coffee and a cigarette after waking up. But I"ll have to give that up too when it's time.

I hear ya,it is a tough thing to do.I moved away from my buddies that all smoke a year ago.It was for a work promotion not becasue I didn`t want to hang with them anymore.I haven`t burned in 6 months.I feel soo much more alert and able to complete my thoughts without getting lost and forgetting what I was talking about.I do miss it at times, especially when listening to tunes or watchng a cool vid.I began toking when I was 16.I thought that 17 years was enough.
