Im looking into getting a pair of SDA 1s. At this time I have Rti 70s and the sound with them is adequate but it isnt anything extraordinary. I have been told by many sources that the SDA models are great. Is this true. How is the bass respone on the SDA 1s compaired to my Rti 70 paired with a psw 404? Also if i got these speakers what sort of amp should i power them with? I have a Pioneer runnin 110wpc but i know thats not enough.
Any input is appreciated

Yup, we tend to love our SDA's...

Which generation 1's are you looking at? There are three, but I'll assume you have not found the original 1's. Are the tweeters next to each other (1A's) or stacked vertically (1B's)?

That said any of the models in that series are going to outperform your 70's. The SDA"s passive radiator design is just superior, IMO. On their own they should overmatch your 70's plus the 404...

As for an amp... a solid 110 wpc Pioneer is not a bad start. The 70's at 8-ohm with the 404 handling the deeper bass are not nearly the load tat the 4-ohm 1's will be full range, but it's a start. Worry about getting the 1's first...

Hopefully the SDA interconnect is part of the deal. But if it is not, you can buy or make a replacement.

If they are in good condition with no major flaws and come with the SDA cable, $450 would be a good to fair price. I've only seen one pair on ebay go for less.

If they are mint with the cable, it's a very good price.

good luck you'll find hens teeth first. You will need to change it out to speakon connectors and make your own cable. Those 3prong connector's were the very first they changed shortly after that to the Blade/ Blade cable, I have never seen a used 3 prong come up for sale anywhere.

I guess I just learned something. I thought the blade/blade connector came first and then the pin/blade on later models. You are correct about the pin/blade being no longer available.

Actually, four. SDA 1, SDA 1Signature/SDA1A, SDA 1B, SDA 1C. The 1, 1 Signature, and 1A have an SDA tweeter, (tweeters side-by-side) while the SDA 1B and 1C have two tweeters stacked vertically.

Three-prong first, then Blade/blade, then pin/blade. Some (early) 1Cs were made with Blade/blade connections to use-up excess inventory, but those speakers can be made to be fully-compatible with an AI-1 just like the later-production pin-blade 1Cs.

first SDA's used the 3prong that the earliest RTA12's used between the high hat and the lower unit

Type port below tweeters in the search bar and read that thread and it will explain the cable to you.I actually saw one of those on ebay about a month ago.I would change it out to speakons like others have suggested.

The original SDA 1 had "nostril" ports by the tweeters. The SDA 1A eliminated the ports, and had some crossover and cabinet updates.

The SDA 1 Signature is an original SDA 1 with the crossover updates, the cabinet mods, and the nostril ports blocked by Polk. A brass "signature" plate went over the baffle to cover the no-longer-used nostril ports.

Instructions are located on this site to perform the SDA 1-to-SDA 1 Signature modifications for the DIY enthusiast. The worst part of the whole deal is probably sawing-out the cabinet braces.
