I am thinking of buying these bookshelves, can someone whos used them tell me how they perform, i have auditioned them and they sounded pretty good to me, they retail for around 350 a pair. Do you guys think its a good decision or are there better bookshelves from Polk? I can at present go with only bookshelves and that too i have to buy from circuit city only- that leaves me with just Polk and Infinities and i like the Polks better. Thanks for your advice in advance!

If the Monitor 40's are your only option, then at least it is a good option for the price.
Everyone(or least I think everyone) here will attest that Polk makes some really good speakers.
Your personal taste is the deciding factor. If you are happy with the sound, then go with it.

    In that price range...

There are plenty of options, and even MORE if you dont mind buying used...

Might wanna check out AXIOM www.axiomaudio.com or definitive technology www.definitivetech.com

Here is Definitives Offering for 330 or so http://www.definitivetech.com/loudspeakers/studiomonitor/studiomonitor.html#sm450

Here is Axiom's for 400 shipped
    http://www.axiomaudio.com/m22ti.html

    Athena is another brand..

    The RTi6

The older RT lines, the SDA CRS - LOTS of options

For 350 bucks, you can get great speakers

does your particular cc have any of te RTi series. they have been blowing them out for low prices, and if your able to get them, do it. find out if they have any of the current or older Polk RTi floating around, tell us what they got and we will be happy to advise you from there. i've never heard the monitor series, so i can not attest to their sound quality

Thanks for the reply guys, i got a great deal from CC.. heres why i mentioned i could get it from CC only- I had a setup of RM6700 satellites from Polks earlier- which i purchased from CC.I had this for around 6 months and CC has this policy of one time speaker upgrade within an year of your purchase. So i was looking at upgrading from these satellites to a bookshelves. Since CC was discontinuing the current Polk line i got a really awesome deal.I bought 2 Rti6's(front mains), CSi3(center channel), 2 Fxi3's(side surrounds- bipoles/dipoles switchable) and 2 Rti4's for the rear back surround. All this for just 610 bucks!!! I just paid 100 bucks difference when i gave back the RM6700 system and upgraded to these.
And yes i am aware there are much better options for that price range(380 bucks) but i had to buy from CC and got a very good deal instead, the original price of this same setup would have been near 12-1300 bucks. This is my bedroom HT, my main HT consists of a 7.1 Energy setup with Infocus 4805 and Yamaha HTR 5790 :D
Thanks a lot for the inputs guys!! Appreciate it!

That really was a good deal. I got a set of RTi6's and RTi4's a couple of weeks ago at extremely good prices ($130 and $100 respectively). Do they have any more of the RTi series at that particular CC?

:D Thanks Guys, No OkiePolkie as a matter of fact these were the last few pieces around in the whole area, in fact i had to pick up the Csi3 from a seperate outlet. Guess they all have been picked up by guys like us :) i got my Rti6's and Rti4's both for 140 per pair. Btw i hooked up and compared the RTi6's and Energy C3's i had for a comparison yesterday..though the Energies were more detailed and better in highs the polks were close behind.. and i paid 500 bucks for that Energy Pair.. so the Polks are a pretty good deal!! Any one knows why CC is discontinuing the Polk RTi lineup? THanks again :)

CC discontinued the RTi line because they didn't make X amounts of profit, why give good selection when you can go mainstream and make more money? Oh well...

Oh so they are going the HTIB way? I thought probably Polk itself had discontinued them.. well at least its our gain.. but its sad that the only things left for the everyday consumer would be HTIB or those Bose or Panasonic HTIB's there..

Unfortunately, CC is the only Polk distributor here in the Memphis area.

It seems BB and CC are focusing more on televisions right now with a lot of people wanting to upgrade to HD.

I hope someone does pick up the higher lines so I can at least audition them.
