Should I Even Bother Getting My AVR Checked?

I'm currently using my Onkyo TX-DS797 for a pre-pro with a two-channel power-amp for my Lsi15's. Occasionally (I'd say once every 3-4 weeks) when I turn on my AVR I get that loud POP! Never had this problem until I began using a power-amp.
I have an extended service plan on my AVR and was wondering if you think I'll benefit by taking it into the service center? I.E. - is it fixable?
Or is this just a common issue with such setups?
Or is there something I should do to remedy something I've done incorrectly? I didn't think there would be as the setup is so simple...RCA's from pre-outs to amp.
Thanks in advance for your help.

i might be wrong, but im leaning toward the amp being the problem. my rotels have a little pop on power up occationally. what kind of amp do you have.

My amp is a Crest Audio Vs650. You may have not heard of it and although my particular model is no longer available, here's their web-site.

But, I'm leaving the amp on all the time. It's only when I turn the AVR on do I get the POP.

That can happen (popping) when the onkyo is turned on due to the amp being on all the time, the pre is sending out a small transiant to the amp and is heard as a pop. You should turn on the oink first and then the amp, when turning off just follow the reverse and walla no more pop.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Okay, so it's a common thing and just a matter of turn-on order. I'd rather leave the amp on all the time but if that's what it takes, that'll do.
    Thanks.

receiver and amp combo does lead to that popping sound.. i used to have it too. till, i hooked up the amps so there is a 1 second delay from the receiver.. no mo pops!

I would say the terminal/pre-amp connection delay is probably broken, that keeps the signals from getting out while the voltage levels are stabilizing, is it under warrenty? Because then you get it into perfect shape again. :)

I do have one of those Extended Service Plans at CC. Maybe I should give them a call to see if this is something they can address/fix.
    What do you think?

You did pay for the Extended warrenty, take advantage of it, I honestly would try to make that plan worthwhile, of course, as long as you don't mind not having your AVR for a while.

It's not fixable. Other Onkyo owners can chime in. It's normal behavior of Oinks to pop at startup. My old TX-SR600 used to do that once in a while.

Polkfan, there will be pop every now and then when the amp is on before the pre is turned on even when that pre is a reciever being used as one. If an external amp is not being used then yes a pop at turnon should be considered an issue.

Just to clarify, an external amp is being used.

How damaging is that occasionaly pop? How concerned do I need to be?
