LSi 7 matching C

I have an LSiC that I purchased as a demo unit at a local stereo store. (had been running for a year) I then purchased some new LSi7's from Brett.

When watching a movie and someone moves from left to center to right the tone of their voice changes fairly dramatically.

Is this an issue with the drivers being bad in my LSiC? (7's and C both sound ok - just different - like they were from a different series)

Could it just be that the new LSi7's are not broken in yet? (about 10-15 hours on them)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you calibrated your system with an SPL meter yet?

Yes, calibrated and set up. (in reciever for distance, level, size, etc.)

Also am running all 3 from an external amp that will run stable down to 2 ohms.

If there's nothing wrong with the speakers (i.e., they sound OK by themselves), then it's probably a setup issue. Check your settings and connections again.

Also, make sure all of the channels on your amp are working properly and that it's properly hooked up.

If these things don't work, unhook everything and redo it.

if you're finicky and want to wait until after break-in is done for final placement and calibration, maybe just plan on experimenting for around 100 hours or so,.. alot less if you drive them hard often, alot more if you rarely rough them up.

aside from tonal changes through break-in the soundstage of my lsi9's was just a narrow horizontal band between the speaks. the gradual process of that band opening up was the last identifiable change i noticed. i can only imagine what a center channel on a different plane would do with that.

beyond break-in, for what you might hear now, if your center is still near the ceiling in a corner it probably gets a lot of low frequency reinforcement. being so close to the monitor, that may be audibly resonating. you may also have strong early mid-high frequency first reflections off of the ceiling.

beyond the obvious physical differences between the lsic and 7's, distance from the walls, floor and/or ceiling of the 7's will change their in-room response.

to figure out what's really going on you might try experimenting with them all equalized alike, on the same plane and similarly situated (in regard to walls, floor and ceiling).

there might be placement and treatment ideas around here if you're up to it.

if you want to go that route, describe what sounds different between the lsic and 7's. if you want to do pics, it would be good to have from the listening position towards the gear, from the gear back towards the listening position and the other 2 opposing corners.
