Widescreen vs. Full Screen DVD's

No zoom for me, thank you.
I rented Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift Widescreen and purchased the Full Screen version. I have 2 DVD players hooked up to my TV. Without zooming, I synchronized both players and watched with PIP. Some of the scenes on the full screen version were just as wide as the wide screen version, but all of the full screen version scenes were taller (you could see actors from head to toe, whereas the wide screen version showed from knee to top of head). It was just the reverse of what full screen does to wide screen. They just cut the top and bottom of the movie to make it seem wide. -
When I worked at circuit city and people were looking for a movie. I would hand them the WS version and they would say they hate the black bars, they want FF. Almost everyone I talked to didn't understand what WS really was, most thought it was just for a WS television. Then I would explain what WS really is and showed them a diagram of what they were missing. Then, prolly 90% would buy the widescreen.
I think if people were properly informed of what WS really is, FF would dissappear. Before I knew, I HATED the black bars. Now, every movie I watch (DVDs) are widescreen and I don't even notice them anymore.AVR: H/K AVR240

That really sucks. It defeats the whole purpose of a WS release. -
Anybody pickup this version?
"Universal Studios Home Entertainment added to the expanding roster of hit movies with the HD DVD release of the 2006 blockbuster “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” which will hit stores on September 26. “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” will deliver the most advanced interactive features for a movie to date by taking advantage of the flexible HDi™ authoring environment and mandatory features only HD DVD guarantees. Picture-in-picture director's commentary, GPS mapping of car scenes and even crash damage estimates provided by Progressive Direct are just some of the features consumers will be able to enjoy throughout the movie playback experience. In addition, “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” will be released as a combo disc that can be played in standard DVD players and in high definition. " -
Maybe they figured anyone who would actually spend money on such a piece of garbage as "Tokyo Drift" was too braindead to notice....If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Just one last question, when you watched the widescreen version did you have black lines on the top and bottom of your screen or did it fill your screen?Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)
