What the hell is up with this No Hockey deal?

What asstard thought this would be a good idea? Don't they remember what happened to baseball after all the retarded strikes? They had to build new stadiums everywhere just to get people to come back into the parks!

This is gonna suck! Winter ain't winter without a Flyers or Devils game on the boob-toob! At least we still have football for Thanksgiving.

The players are a determined group and the owners are just as determined. The game is in trouble. Bettman and Goodenow appeared separately on an open forum type of news special on the CBC. They both have their points but it's so hard to sympathize with the players making so much money and league almost losing a couple of teams recently. I say, bring on the cap, lower the ticket prices and make the game affordable once again for the average Joe to bring his family.

Sadly, it's not just people but I feel for the kids who idolize these hockey players. There's no way they understand what's going on.

get rid of Betteman and half of the teams in the league. Betteman ruined this league with all the expansion.

Really, hockey is just the ugly sibling of the sports leagues. It doesn't have remotely close to the fanbase of it's older sibs, and expanding to areas like here in Phoenix....where ice is extinct, makes way for an even smaller fanbase (as if that's possible)

Hockey's fun..........for the highlight reel on the news

You're in a crap market... Hit a big hockey market and you'll see what hockey's all about. Pheonix should of stayed in Winnipeg where they love hockey.

There are too many teams and in a way I hope the lockout last a while and teams like Nashville and Carolina fold.

    *edit*

I agree with D. teams in canada should have stayed here...where ice covers our streets for almost 6 months.....hovkey in the desert or in florida !! ha LMAO.....where is next south america ?? oh yeah and cap their A$$ they should play cause they love the game, they make enough money as is.... Im not a huge fan...we don't go see games cause 1- tickets for two are almost the price of mortgage payments 2- the nerd who put the Corel center on the complete other side of the city and not in the downtown core....it takes 45mins to get out there...

Just be thankful they're still in Kanata. :) They could have easily been moved somewhere hot. Mr. Melnik saved the Sens. I agree on ticket prices though, even with Ottawa's reasonable payroll tickets are out of reach for the average Joe and his family.

true they could have moved...to hmmm his 10th home in bermuda... and yes the tickets are very expensive thats the main reason we dont go....we live in hunt club and from kanata to our place on a good night it's 30-40 mins...on a game night to get there the Queens way is backed up east past downtown....and to get back home after the game 45mins min.....But I have to admit those guys do lots for our community !! good on them for that

That's THE problem with Hockey. It doesn't have a universal draw.....period. It can't compare to Football or Basketball. The players are somehow under the impression that it does and they base their salary requirements on that disillusioned fantasy.

Cap their asses, and tell the league to quit going to places where you have to plant a seed for it to grow (Phoenix). Go with the huge bases (if any more growth at all right now) and start with a large existing fan base.......

Or cap their asses and the small market teams won't be in so much trouble.

Basketball yes but football isn't a major sport, universally. Unless you're talking about the more popular football aka soccer.

I wasn't meaning universal as in worldwide.....just that Football is a much bigger sport than that of hockey, and you can judge that by way of measuring a fanbase (for any team) in a market where there are no teams. The same can't be said for Hockey, at least not remotely near the same scale.

In the US, yes, you're right. Overall hockey seems to be the bigger sport. Anyone have stats?

Football and baseball are really just regional sports with minor interest outside of US. Baseball, which is gaining some popularity, is a fun game to play but horribly boring for the spectators.
